Since everyone seems to claim amazon is always cheaper i thought i'd take a few of neweggs sale prices and compare them to amazon.

Corsair hx750:

Newegg: $89.99 After rebate

Amazon: $159.99

Sapphire 7970:

Newegg $289.99 After Rebate

Amazon $369.99

Plextor 128GB SSD:

Newegg: $99

Amazon: $140.86

I just looked at the newegg ad and picked out the good sales. As you can see newegg has really good prices. I don't get why everyone thinks amazon is better. I always find better prices and combos on newegg. Not to mention shoprunner is free.

Amazon link, if anyone was interested. Sweet, free shipping.

Not sure about the games, though.

I'm looking at a pretty similar build right now. Here's some tips from my own research:

I personally am looking at the Gigabyte Z87X-D3H. If you check out Sin's VRM List it has pretty good components, and the feature set, particularly the dual BIOS, will be nice. Depending on your situation (dunno exactly what deal Microcenter has), the UD3H is very similar though it appears to have a slightly larger port selection, larger heatsinks, etc. - the only reason I chose the former over the latter is because a combo deal on Newegg makes it significantly cheaper for me right now (~$25).

That SSD is quite large, and will hold many programs as well as the OS. If you're willing to be more selective about what you install on that drive, you can easily get by with the 120GB Samsung 840, and save almost $100 in the process.

I don't know exactly why the R4 is so popular; depending on your tastes and how important cooling, noise, a side window, etc. are to you, you might find something better. This is very subjective so I won't bother to suggest anything specific, but suffice to say that you could save a good $30-$50 there.

750W is overkill for your current specs, but leaves you comfortable for an SLI situation. Your current PSU looks reasonable but isn't Haswell-certified, which means that it probably can't support Haswell's sleep state - this is probably no big deal, though.

And to finally answer your big question: your 760 is indeed your gaming bottleneck right now. However, it will max out most games at 1080p, which is probably more than enough for you. The 760 is a great deal from a price/performance perspective, and you're all set for an SLI with it in the future. In case you're looking for more power right now, there's a deal on this Sapphire 7970 (Price Matched by Amazon). It will give better performance and provides better antialiasing, as well as having more VRAM for things like Skyrim mods or higher resolutions (eg 1440p). However, it does this at the price of Nvidia's Physx and Cuda and it will perform worse at tesselation. In addition, while a good 750W psu may be enough for crossfired 7970s, it's cutting a little too close and a good 850W or greater psu is generally recommended.

Hopefully some of this information helps you. Good luck with your build.

EDIT: fixed link to Sin's VRM List.

The issue I have with the 780 GTX is that now that you can grab two 7970s for the same price of one 780. I can't imagine buying a 780 at its current price.

In stock at amazon w/ prime even. Go with your first choice. I know you said newegg. But unless its due to having some giftcards or something I don't know why you'd choose newegg. Heck, if it were me I'd sell the speculative giftcards and buy through amazon anyway. :)

Is there something special about this specific 7970? After seeing all of the 7970 sales recently I'm convinced I can get one for closer to $300, and sure enough amazon has several used for $300 and brand new Sapphire cards for $329 before MIR. Basically I'm saying I'm interested, but I'm just wondering what justifies the price tag. I mean if that's what you got it for I don't blame you at all for selling it for that much but similar cards are going for much cheaper elsewhere :/

I have use both and they still work great. If you have the money you should get these. Its worth the cash. Sorry if you are looking for sonething cheaper.

This one or this one. The Gigabyte card is apparently voltage locked (and seems to have some coil whine) though, and I do enjoy my OC'ing. I've never messed with voltage though, my i5-2500K is pretty happy sitting at 4.2 gigahertz. I don't want to mess up a 7970, that's or sure. If I get that one, I'll wait til Amazon has it back in stock at $399.99. The Sapphire one, on the other hand, has pretty great reviews all around.

u/MikeyA15 · 1 pointr/buildapcforme

I have the monitor he's listed and it's fantastic. I like the build but I would personally go with a Caviar Black instead of a Blue.

And I, this may be my GPU bias showing, would 2 way crossfire these cards. I'm running a single HD7970 ghz edition and it's maxing out Borderlands 2 and Far Cry 3 no sweat. So two would have stupid power. And by switching to an i5-4670k instead of an i7 there will be no real change in price as you'll be saving $100.

Here's the Newegg Link and here's the Amazon link.

Thanks for the feedback! I checked on Amazon and they're selling what looks to be a similar card for a bit cheaper! However, I can't really tell why this card (on amazon) has a higher base price, while newegg's is lower.

Do you have any insight on what the differences between these cards might be? Sapphire's not too helpful; as near as I can tell, the product description on the newegg card is wrong and it actually has 2x mini display ports, but otherwise I'm not seeing much that seems to require a ~$50 price difference...

u/STOPBEINGAWESOME · 1 pointr/buildapc

Where are you getting th 7950 at? For 20 dollars more you can get the 7970 at amazon, and with the rebate it goes even lower than your 7950.

http://www.amazon.com/Sapphire-DL-DVI-I-SL-DVI-D-PCI-Express-11197-03-40G/dp/B009B6Y01Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1376138708&sr=8-1&keywords=7970

Apart from that everything looks good, goodluck with your build! If you have ab igger budget you might want to try to fit in an SSD because it makes a world of a difference.

I will have a Sapphire HD 7970 OC soon, i got it used from a friend 6 months ago for 180 to run crossfired in my rig, just ordered a 390 though :) It run's a little warms but nothing too bad, good condition other wise has original box and i believe all accessories. (box is ripped and beat up a bit) wondering what a reasonable price for it might be?

Thanks, happy new year!!

I know the new pricing on amazon and newegg are fucked up, but I'm just linking to give people who don't know what the stats are easy access.

Alright, I've picked out my motherboard and CPU. Now I've picked a GPU. I'd like you to look at it and give me your opinion considering you are a component wizard.

I have no experience with them.

Here's some Amazon reviews.

u/WolfType · 0 pointsr/buildapc

Well I know you said you'd prefer to go with AMD, but the best card you can get there is the GTX 770.

GTX 770 OC WINDFORCE

For the PSU, take a look at this. It fits nicely into your budget, and take a look at the reviews.

POWER SUPPLY (800W)

If you must go with AMD, then this is your best option:

AMD 7970 OC BOOST

Wait what? Amazon lists it for $310 new and you're selling it for $325 used? Ripoff.
