You can get the same deal on amazon.

u/AFRUITPIE · 6 pointsr/buildapc

He/she's talking about the Sapphire Tri-X R9 290, not a three-way x-fire setup.

u/Casters4eva · 3 pointsr/buildapcsales

Yes the US site ships to Chicago.

The tri-x is the better cooler but it hasn't been on sale since early July.

You can pick up a like new one for around the same price on amazon though.

u/jollymonsa · 3 pointsr/ScryptMiningRigs

Dont go 290x, go 290. Much better price/Khash and this card overclockings and undervolts like a champ

Another ~40USD can get you a 290 version which has some very close performance to the 970.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HJOXUKC/?tag=extension-kb-20

May not be the best link from amazon though not sure if you have prime. Otherwise Newegg has some for 299.99

Thought it depends on what you are doing with gaming that the 280X can be worthwhile.

u/Autonomoose · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Are you really set on the Vapor-x? seems like a big hike from the tri-x which is currently on sale. It is normally about the price for that Vapor-x you posted. The quality difference is minimal.

u/Rosset · 2 pointsr/india

I am looking forward to buy AMD R9 290 Gfx card.

Price on amazon India is Rs 31,750 = 530 dollars

Price in US 427 dollars

I would be very happy if I can get this card in less than 30k

u/Jakomako · 2 pointsr/buildapc

The performance difference doesn't justify the cost difference between the 290 and 290x.

The Tri-x 290 is only $370 right now. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HJOXUKC/?tag=pcpapi-20

The cheapest Tri-x 290x is $545.

Pretty much a no-brainer there.

Haha, no worries man everyone needs to sleep! :)

Hey I actually have a 650W in my PC, not sure how I thought I had a 520W, and I ordered just a regular 290 since it was on sale for 44% off, down to 279.99 from 499.99 @_@ R9 290

I was thinking THIS PSU for my bros PC, is it alright or should I go with the one you link you think? There both 500W and Corsair.

Everything for his PC is available in Ajax which is the closer drive and since I ordered my GPU I don't need to worry about going to Markham :)

u/Nestledrink · 1 pointr/hardwareswap

Boooo 290x. I still have my 290 Tri-X OC model that I msg-ed you about few days ago!! :D Bought that in June 2014 so still under warranty until June 2016!!

u/dunzeod · 1 pointr/buildapc

theres a lot more cheaper options now! I would look at the Gtx 970. It is a fantastic card. I'm not sure if it's available in NZ yet but I would definitely check. If not, then look at an older, but still powerful [r9 290] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00HJOXUKC?pc_redir=1411847002&robot_redir=1)

u/Foolbird · 1 pointr/buildapc

Is it a good idea to get used video cards at all these days? With the advent of bit/litecoin mining someone if someone runs a card 24/7 at full load and OC'ed then sells it to you is it likely to fail (even if it says like new and even if it works at first)?

Also I'm in a similar sitatuon to OP except I'm looking at the 290 version used going for $329.00 or would it be safer to go for the new version at $400?

without getting a new motherboard:

CPU

Upgrade to A-10 Series: $150.00

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113359

This will be a ton better than what you have. However, it's worth mentioning, that this CPU is 1 tier slower than any modern intel i3 series CPU - and those run between 30-50 dollars cheaper than this, but you will need a new motherboard.

If you want a better AMD CPU than this, you'll have to upgrade your motherboard anyways, and with the dominance that intel has had in the last 5 years in CPU's, you are way better off going with a cheap i3 haswell, or even better, an i5 which is a monster for gaming.

i5 intel CPU. $180.00

Here's a very cheap, yet excellent motherboard that would go with the i5. $70.00

Lower end upgrades:

$120 r7 260

With either one of these, you could probably mod skyrim at 1020x600 to 1400x800 resolutions with 512k and 1k textures on low/medium settings.

Midrange Upgrades

ATI r9 280x $250.00

With this card (and a cpu upgrade) you could mod up skyrim with an ENB at 1440 x 800 to 1920 x 1080 resolutions, on middle to high settings, with 1k textures, potentially some 2k textures.

upper range upgrades

Nvidia 970 $340.00

Ati r9 290x $340.00

With either of these, you can run and mod skyrim at 1920 x1080 and sometimes above resolutions, with enb and 2k and 4k textures, at ultra settings (you of course need a cpu upgrade, probably requiring a i5 intel cpu).

u/bilago · 1 pointr/buildapc

The Motherboard you chose only supports Crossfire, so it would only make sense to go with an AMD GPU. Since you have such a large budget I would do 2 x R9 290's

and a 800w+ high quality PSU with a 7 year warranty like Seasonic X-850

http://www.amazon.com/Sapphire-Version-PCI-Express-Graphics-11227-00-40G/dp/B00HJOXUKC

My sapphire r9 290 is incredible. You get all the performance per dollar of the AMD cards without the heat and noise. It performs just under a 780ti and even runs cooler for less money. If you go AMD, do your homework and find a good aftermarket card.

Couldn't recommend this one highly enough.

Edit: also has an extra 1GB of VRAM (over 780ti) for running at higher resolutions like 1440p (what I do).

u/Beyondist · 1 pointr/buildapc

There's probably a difference in aftermarket cooling, and factory overclocking.

I assume you are talking about This One

Vs This One?

If so, it's due to the fact that the second one is the "Best" 290. There's a 300MHz difference in clock speed, and a 203 MHz difference in memory clock speeds. The VRAM remains equal though.
There's a few minor changes with max resolution supported, and cooling.

Personally, I'd rather go for a 390 instead of spending $100 more for the best 290.

u/benderrrb · 1 pointr/buildapc

It's one of the cheaper options but it will work just fine (most coolers are overkill unless you are pushing your CPU to the absolute limits). You could upgrade to a bigger radiator but a single unit will be fine.

Those GPUs are not necessary if you're okay with having good settings, but if (like me) you prefer to go for maxed settings - great for bragging rights - you would definitely benefit from checking out cards like the Sapphire Tri-x R9 290 and the XFX Black Edition 290

u/Sunny2456 · 1 pointr/hardwareswap

I've got a Sapphire 290 TriX-OC, it's this card, I just don't have the box anymore. It's the v2 version which comes stock at 1000GHz. : http://www.amazon.com/Sapphire-Version-PCI-Express-Graphics-11227-00-40G/dp/B00HJOXUKC/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1462846475&sr=1-1&keywords=290+sapphire

Edit: Wrong link

u/Yea_that_guy · 1 pointr/buildapc

If I'm using an ASROCK z97, i5-4690k, and am looking at either a sapphire radeon r9 290 4gb or XFX Double D R9-280x 3GB, what fans/how many fans should I be looking to get? Also, does anyone have any recommendations on which GPU would be the better choice for maxing games such as Far Cry 3, modded skyrim, WoW, LoL, Titanfall, all on 1080p? Sorry if this is too much for this thread, the basic question would just be based on the fans.

u/MikeyJayRaymond · 1 pointr/buildapc

What's the difference between these three cards then?
