I have been driving in Richmond since Uber started. MY current view of Uber is that since Richmond is a new market Uber is not common knowledge. Most of my passengers are from somewhere where Uber has been operating for a while. The number of drivers being added in Richmond in the short term is greatly limiting the frequency and duration of Surge pricing because so many cars are available and that reduces how much money you can make in a night.

Upgrade your USB car charger. The one provided, if I remember correctly, is a 2 port charger, 1.2 amps for the phone USB and 2.1 amps for the ipad USB. This charger is 2.4 amps out of each port and its actually a huge difference. My phone stays fully charged all night (I also reduce the screen brightness). I found out about it on r/uberdrivers

Remember you are a 3rd party contractor and all of your expenses are tax deductible but you have to pay more in taxes at the end of the year.

Additionally if anyone reading this is considering driving for Uber, apply through a driver to get a referral. You and the driver will each get $100 after you are signed up and complete 20 trips. There is no incentive if you sign up on your own.

Buy a decent charger. Look for top rated ones on amazon. I use my old 2A samsung wall warts and they work great.

companies like anker, aukey, scosche all make decent ones for both the car and wall outlets. anker and others even provide a 1-2 year warranty (and i know from experience anker honors theirs)

i use this in the car for example and have been quite satisfied. Doesn't do the nexus' quick charge but its good enough (i bought it before i got the 5x)

If you get an expensive USB hub you can get the same charging speed as if you were plugged into a wall. This one is highly recommended:

My Nexus 7 charges slow even plugged in to the wall so I'm not sure whether this would solve the problem or not.

I have had this [one] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E1UWA4O/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) for a couple months and it seems to be durable.

I've had good luck with Scosche.. like Amazon ASIN number B00E1UWA4O.

A lot of boat stuff can be directly translated to van or small space life, the wiring will be about the same, and general advice will help in either world.
Anyway I tried to find you some resources, here are some basic things you should read first:
http://www.batterystuff.com/kb/articles/battery-articles/battery-basics.html
Here is some jargon and general guidelines. Part 4 will help you find a battery with the right capacity, after you find out what your maximum draw in amps will be, and for how long.

http://www.simplesolarsetup.com/battery4.html
A more in depth example, separated in sections of a solar setup, you should read all of this too.

And battery size numbers are literally form factors, the higher the number the physically bigger and usually bigger capacity.

Edit: Thought exercise time! You should use car usb chargers for your mobile devices, instead of converting to 120v then to 5 v for your phone or whatever. So say you purchased this here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E1UWA4O/
Two ports, 2.4amps each. Say every day you drain your phone and your tablet maybe, in this example it takes 5 hours to charge, 4.8 amps total over 5 hours means you used up about 24 amp hours from your battery. A bit more than a quarter capacity on this guy:
http://www.atbatt.com/interstate-srm-24-12v-deep-cycle-marine-rv-battery.asp

(I'm pretty sure anyhow, not an expert)

You shouldn't go cheap when buying Dual USB car chargers. For a few more bucks you can buy a reliable charger that will last. There's this whole thing about wattage and descriptors being sneaky and misleading in regards to product description. Falsifying AMP numbers. USB slots not supporting certain devices - which can lead to draining of battery, having no affect on battery, malfunction. There's this looming suspicion that your charger might not work with, say, your tablet or laptop or android phone because, for some reason or another, many many many of these chargers are designed with Apple functionality in mind, despite what the description might say. I recognized this product as one of the popular-selling dual USB chargers, so I'm almost certain that it falls to be under the same category.

A few months ago I bought my own charger after days of extensive and intensive research on the matter and found that this charger is ambidextrous and well-fit to suit almost any charging needs. The price is good, too. $4 extra for the added assurance.

And don't let sale prices fool you. They mean nothing. Just because something was marked down from $50 to $5 doesn't mean that it hasn't been in that sale price range since its inception on the Amazon marketplace.

I was actually doing that this morning. No battery drain for me. I don't use the car charging port it came with though. I bought This

This one has worked for me for the last 5 years in my Gen2 (2012).

Looks like you went the cheapest way possible on both the adapter and the cables. You got what you paid for.

The only cables to buy are from Monoprice and car charger from Scosche. They are a lot more expensive but iron clad reliable. And still cheaper than buying 100 shitty cables.

Or Google "Best micro USB cables" and "Best USB Car Charger" and pick something in the top three. You'll be all set.

I'd assume your car's output isn't as stable as a home outlet and this could cause damage with a low quality adapter. I don't see an issue with a high quality one like this if your mod is only capable of USB charging.

If you have removable cells the efest luc v4 includes a car adapter that works very well.

The device will only pull as much current as it can either limited by the output of the charger at the wall or in the mod itself. Most mods with a built in battery support at least 1a charging and some support 2a.

Have one of these too, but in the center console. Anker makes great stuff I've been using for years.

Serious question though, why not keep it in the center console under the armrest and just have a cable plugged into it she can grab at all times? Keep it out of sight and don't give anyone any reason to try to get into your car. I've seen people get robbed for a fucking iPhone cable because people suck. No thanks.

I also have a couple of these floating around the cars we have in case we need a spare. They're great quality (at one time were the best reviewed by The Wirecutter for their performance) and super low profile so nothing sticks up from the 12v outlet.

Here it is! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E1UWA4O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_DjgDAbDA2YE9X

It works really well, I always plug my phone in now when I drive even short distances cuz it gives quite a bit of charge.
