Some of the things I'll list are pricey. Or they seem that way to me.

Fire safe - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B000SHRKJO/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?qid=1377778385&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX110_SY165

And I don't know the rules over there, but make sure you have working smoke alarms.

  • batteries
  • candles
  • torch/flashlight
  • matches/lighter

If you don't have air conditioning, perhaps buy some fans.

  • curtains
  • bed linen
  • cleaning supplies (or make your own! Plenty of tutorials out there. Vinegar is fantastic stuff)
  • broom
  • vacuum
  • neat boxes for storage
  • kettle
  • toilet bowl brush
  • laundry basket

I'm blanking on other things. Stuff that I either already saw listed or not. I'm a wee bit tired right now. Hope this helps a bit and I wish you the best on your move.

If you want to store important documents, you can always purchase a small vault/firebox. I have one for my passport and other crap I don't use everyday but need to keep somewhat safe. It is pretty small and easily portable, and while not the most secure against a determined thief, they are usually rated for fire/flood damage.

Here is the one I use at my apartment.

When I built my house, I had a safe installed, but that is going to be more costly and not something I'd recommend unless you're going to be in one spot long term.
