And I don't know the rules over there, but make sure you have working smoke alarms.
If you don't have air conditioning, perhaps buy some fans.

If you want to store important documents, you can always purchase a small vault/firebox. I have one for my passport and other crap I don't use everyday but need to keep somewhat safe. It is pretty small and easily portable, and while not the most secure against a determined thief, they are usually rated for fire/flood damage.
Here is the one I use at my apartment.
When I built my house, I had a safe installed, but that is going to be more costly and not something I'd recommend unless you're going to be in one spot long term.
