Yup and a HDMI 2.0 to DP 1.2 converter does not come cheap either.

He'd almost be better off buying a new monitor.

>Something like this one maybe.

That is a Display Port to HDMI adapter you've linked. By the way, DP++ ports do not require an active adapter for HDMI output.

>Or this one although it takes a USB port.

The second one is literally advertised as 30 Hz 4K. “Enjoy the 4Kx2K (3840x2160 @ 30Hz) video.” If I use HDMI 1.4 input on my monitors, I can achieve the same 30 Hz mess which makes use of even office apps painful — everything including mouse pointer appears laggy and slow.

As pointed out earlier, HDMI-to-DP adapters are more expensive and require external power. This one is almost $40. DP++ to HDMI adapters are cheap, they are in the $10 range.

>Either way I'm glad Asus provided 2 HDMI ports as current gen VR headsets

I actually have a Vive working with remaining HDMI port on my GPU. All of output ports on my card but DVI are populated. I'd rather be happy we're getting rid of DVI.

2 HDMI + 3 DP instead of 1 HDMI + 3 DP does not improve anything. If you ever need HDMI, grab a $10 passive adapter. If you want to convert your HDMI 2.0 to DisplayPort 1.2, your only option are expensive active adapters like this $190 bulky thing https://www.amazon.com/SIIG-HDMI-DisplayPort-Converter-60Hz/dp/B07C39QBSF/

The cheaper route is to go with a Thunderbolt 3 to DisplayPort adapter. Found this Thunderbolt 3 to display port cable on Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075V27G2R/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza for $17. Not sure if it'll work with the Rift S. I did a search on Amazon for HDMI to DP adapters and the only adapter I found for HDMI 2.0 to DP 1.2 for 4K@60Hz was this one https://www.amazon.com/SIIG-HDMI-DisplayPort-Converter-60Hz/dp/B07C39QBSF, which costs $150. What graphics card does your G5 have? Mine has a Geforce GTX 1060 6 GB with Max-Q, the HDMI 2.0 port on it goes to the GTX 1060 and works with the Rift CV1. I'm not sure if the Thunderbolt 3 port on mine is connected to my GTX 1060 when used with a Thunderbolt 3 to Display Port adapter, which is the cheaper option.

No, that’s DisplayPort to HDMI. This type of conversion only goes one way.

OP will need an active adapter.

This one? https://www.amazon.com/SIIG-HDMI-DisplayPort-Converter-60Hz/dp/B07C39QBSF

It says "Resolution support 480p/720p/1080i/1080p/2160p ; Maximum Resolution: 3840x2160@60Hz (4:4:4 8bit)" and "4 PRE-DEFINED EDID MODES: 3840x2160 @60Hz, 4096x2160 @60Hz, 3840x2160 @30Hz, 1080p @60Hz". It should have the bandwidth for 1440p @ 80Hz, but it sounds like it might not handle that resolution.

u/JamesIV4 · 1 pointr/oculus

Would this work? It's $150, but maybe? https://www.amazon.com/SIIG-HDMI-DisplayPort-Converter-60Hz/dp/B07C39QBSF

Edit: oof, no, the audio wouldn't come through with this.

u/midri · 1 pointr/oculus

Only ones I've found are for DP 1.2, look at the specs for the Rift S and see if that'll work.

This one looks like it might work. Does 4k@60hz so it should be able to do 1440p@120hz

u/smakkyoface · 1 pointr/pcgamingtechsupport

an HDMI switch would be a better option since its a 1:1 signal that just passes through the switch. If you absolutely have to use DisplayPort, then it depends on your resolution and refresh rate.

If you're just trying to run 1080p 60hz. A cheap active HDMI to Displayport cable will work.

If you want 4k @60hz you'll spend a bit more.

There won't be much issue since you're on console, latency will be negligible. But obviously a 1:1 signal pass through is less latency than any conversion.

Theoretically possible yes, but it'll require the use of expensive cables that can be finnicky.

E: It looks like HDMI to Displayport adapters that do 4K 60hz can actually cost 150 dollars. If you're fine with 30hz you can use cheaper cables.

You'll need something like this -

What you may also want to consider is just another video card that has multiple HDMI ports, apparently Gigabyte makes a 1050 Ti with 3 HDMI 2.0b. Plug the other TV into the 2080 Ti that likely only has 1 HDMI.
