You might try a cabinet scraper for a minute. You'd know right quick if it would work. It's gonna be a lot of work, regardless
Is a card scraper the same thing as a cabinet scraper?

The holder is really useful to lessen strain on hands/thumbs.
Here's a decent scraper if that's all you're looking for: https://www.amazon.com/Bahco-6-Inch-474-150-0-80-Cabinet-Scraper/dp/B0001P0PIG/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1521940488&sr=8-3&keywords=bahco+scraper
I would recommend using less expensive glue. https://www.amazon.ca/GORILLA-6215230-18oz-Gorilla-Wood/dp/B00K2N502I/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1539494229&sr=8-3&keywords=wood+glue&dpID=41Fq9kH8O4L&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch Gorilla wood glue is what I use for board bow handles, tip overlays, and non-wood backings, and it dries fairly clear/white.
I'd also recommend a linen backing instead of sheet rock tape because I think it looks better and provides better protecting from lifting a splinter. You can also get linen for a few bucks, I find linen pants at thrift stores and then cut strips form that.
I've never used a shinto rasp before, but have people here told you it removes wood quickly? I'm just concerned it will be slow for some of the large wood removal.
I'd also recommend a cabinet scraper https://www.amazon.ca/Crown-375-Cabinet-Scraper-2-5-Inch/dp/B00EC9AOGU/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1539494970&sr=8-7&keywords=cabinet+scraper or https://www.amazon.ca/Bahco-6-Inch-474-150-0-80-Cabinet-Scraper/dp/B0001P0PIG/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1539494970&sr=8-4&keywords=cabinet+scraper&dpID=31g%252BfUgWkCL&preST=_SX300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch
