All you really need is a soldering iron (or soldering station) with a temperature control, 63/37 leaded solder with a flux core, and a solder sucker.

I personally have this as my soldering station and it works fine.

The most important thing is to not apply too much heat for too long. If the original solder doesn't melt, don't try and force it. Wait for things to cool off, melt in some fresh solder and try again. Adding fresh solder will help the existing solder melt.

Here is a thread that lists some of the tools that other people use and like. You definitely won't need all (or even most) of these things to replace some switches.

I just bought this one as I find I don't solder much and don't feel like paying over 100 for a iron.
