If you're writing this much, the good pens are worth it. I'm a medical student as well and literally everyone has something like this. Or they use some sort of ipad/surface to take notes on.

You might like Sakura Microns or Staedtler Fineliners:

They are both great for making dots, writing, doodling, etc. They are among my favorite pens!

And yet a pen is still a pen even when it's a ball point, gel, or a "felt-tip fineliner" pen...

Are any of them interested in theatre? You could arrange to buy a couple tickets to a local show or something. Or even a symphony performance.

Otherwise, maybe a booklight, or a nice set of pens (I LURVE [this] (http://www.amazon.com/Staedtler-Triplus-Fineliner-color-334SB10/dp/B000RMS238/ref=sr_1_3?s=office-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1367954233&sr=1-3) set, because of the different colors. It's also available in [this] (http://www.amazon.com/STD334SB20-Fineliner-Porous-Point-Assorted/dp/B000KIEBD4/ref=sr_1_2?s=office-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1367954233&sr=1-2) size.

Other things include restaurant gift cards, itunes gift cards, bookstore giftcards, or if you know of a bookstore or cafe they frequent, perhaps a mug or travel cup that can get them a discount on certain drinks.

Also, are they into puzzle books at all? I'm gifting my brother a cartoons crossword and I noticed there was a superhero one. That might be fun for your coworker who likes Batman.

Other than that, maybe a magazine subscription or a current edition, especially for the photography person. Sorry that's all I can think of. I hope that you find some things that make you excited to give it to them. It sounds like you're being very thoughtful and I'm sure that will show through! Good luck!

Don't know if you're still in need of something, but these are great IMO. Relatively fine point, great flow because they're technically markers, 10 colors.

The case is also addictive to snap.

What's your etsy shop? I used to have an invitation shop on there, but it got too busy, but not busy enough for me to quit my day job.

I really really want it! It being any book from kiddo's list.

A little late to the game, but here goes:

  • Everyday pen, to use when filling out forms at work, jotting down quick notes on a postit: Pilot Acroball

  • Pen to use when taking notes in class: Pilot Acroball multipen. (I color-code my notes)

  • Pens in fun colors: Pilot Juice 0.5. I often use these to take notes during meetings when I would otherwise get grumpy. Also good for writing letters to my pen pals!

  • Felt-tipped pen, good for writing letters or when I want something more smudge-proof: Sakura Pigma Micron

    Honorable mentions:

  • Le Pen - great felt-tipped pen that comes in pretty colors

  • Paper Mate Flair - I have about 15 of these sitting in a pen holder on my desk. I grab various colors throughout the day to use when underlining documents or jotting down notes on my to do list.

  • Staedtler Triplus Fineliner - awesome pens, lots of great colors (see the selection on JetPens for pastel and neon colors!)

  • Sharpie - what's not to love? I have both the fine point and ultra fine point varieties on my desk at all times.
