Got this one recently. Very pleased with it, dunno why it's not rated higher. My 20-pound guy would fit just fine in it, but he's such a teddy bear I just put his harness on and keep him on my lap for vet visits. When I used it to take his sister (who weighed in at just over 9 lbs, so comparable to yours, probably) in last month, though, she actually just calmly walked back in and resumed her loaf-of-cat position after the initial exam.
There's a small zippered opening on the side that I thought was especially brilliant, because you can just slip your hand in, but it'd be very difficult (I'd say impossible, but, y'know... cats) for them to get out, even if it were just left open.
