i have three drums from amazon.co.jp that i ordered with my US card. two of them are in heavy use in an elementary school classroom. they all seem great to me. it is not over $100, more like $67 including shipping. https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B07D1H7CW3/ and you can change the site to run in English using the language selector below the search button.

> Could a Switch work with specialized GH guitars or drum kits?

Of course it can, it's got USB support and any button can be mapped to anything as long as the outgoing signal is the same... https://www.amazon.com/Taiko-Tatsujin-controller-Nintendo-Switch-Japanese/dp/B07D1H7CW3

Rhythm games are just past their prime and not that profitable anymore. Almost no one is going to buy another set of hardware for yet another GH game with either the same songs they've already played to death or new songs that are just not as popular.

As far Arkham...who knows? Why would this subreddit be able to answer that? Try asking the publisher.

For the Hori drum, it's cheaper to import directly from Japan. My Switch drum ended up being $66 shipped from Amazon.co.jp.

Not sure about the dongle, though.

I bought one with the game for my US Switch and both work fine. The controller is considered a generic wired controller by the Switch, so it will technically work on any game and Switch console. In Taiko Switch, when you choose a mode, it asks what controller you are using so the controller will work correctly. As long as the drum option is in the US version, it should still work fine.

I bought mine from amazon.jp. Assuming it still ships internationally, this should be a good way to get it: https://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B07D1H7CW3

Keep in mind you can buy the official one directly from amazon.co.jp for ~$66 which includes shipping.

The Switch drum is this one on Amazon.co.jp and it's 7500ish yen at MSRP which is about $68. Hopefully the newer Switch drum controllers are less flimsy than the PS4 ones were.

Not sure what it's like on Amazon right now but I think I got mine for about $60 usd after shipping and currency exchange.

Was $80 on the US website.

I bought a drum from Amazon Japan (had to make an account there US one didnt work). Really cheap and fast shipping to the US. I think was only around $65-70, nowhere near what it costs to buy from someone else who imported it.

Taiko no tatsujin is one of my fav switch games. I've played with motion controls a few times and it seemed alright - good in a pinch for portable play.

I was referring to this, before I knew that I could buy from Japan’s amazon.
