I assume you have seen handheld electronic "stun guns" which use 9V transistor radio batteries. (here is an example) They contain electronic circuits that transform 9 volts DC to one hundred thousand volts AC, enough to create a 1-inch long spark in dry air. I assume you accept that these stun guns work as advertised, i.e., you accept that it is possible to transform 9VDC into 100000VAC.

Well now do the same thing but not quite as much of it. Transform 6VDC into 50VAC, and then use a diode rectifier to change 50VAC into 50VDC. Apply that to a voltage regulator, resulting in a smooth, clean, constant, fixed 48VDC for your microphone.

Observe that I have used the word "transform" as a verb. Can you guess why I selected this particular verb?
