I got nothing to say about Microsoft but if your WiFi card is dead, you can always try and use an ethernet cable or, if you must have WiFi, buy a $20 WiFi bridge and connect it to the ethernet port.

You should be able to setup a travel router like this for example:
TP-LINK TL-WR710N
I got one of these and it works great: http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WR710N-Wireless-Repeater-Charging/dp/B00FRMAOIO/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1427148852&sr=8-16&keywords=TP+LINK
Here's what I did. It does WISP, so my lab network is its LAN, and its WAN is a wifi client to my existing network. And it presents its own Wifi network for the lab as well.

I purchased this and it works great. Used it with BAMT and PIMP. I am only 15 foot away from my router though.
> That'd be best, but routers are usually easier to get than standalone access points.
Are they? I just got a nice shiny magic box from amazon that does whatever one wants. Access point, Repeater or Bridge, anything goes.
25 bucks
