When you buy it, and you totally should. Check out /r/ultrawidemasterrace there is quite a few things on there that will improve your quality of life. Make sure to purchase this: 10 feet display cable that works with 100hz as the display port cable included is extremely short, you may run into issues. You will need to enable gsync via nivida control panel, and set 100hz refresh on advanced display settings or else it will not work!

I think supports 144hz as well and is a bit cheaper for a longer cable.
If it is DisplayPort 1.2 then you can technically get a 2560 x 1600 monitor to do 120Hz off of a single cable (of course, your graphics card will need to support it) [source].
The R9 390 might be your bottleneck for this device, looking at benchmarks for it, where in Tomb Raider specifically the average fps for a 1080p monitor at max settings was 50 and the average for a 1440p monitor was 30. You will sit somewhere inbetween there with your resolution on the highest settings [source].
I use these DP 1.2 cables and haven't had a problem yet.
That would be the source of the confusion.
You need a dual-link DVI cable. I assume your GPU and monitor are also dual-link.
You certainly don't need to drop $30 on a DP cable though.
