If you already have a monitor, or have access to a cheap used monitor on Craigslist or similar, check out this USB C to HDMI with charging passthrough (you'd have to supply your own charger).

I have the Asus Zenscreen portable monitor (MB16AC) and had a ton of trouble getting it to work consistently on my note 9. I believe the lower models of the monitor work but have not tried the newest version. Also, an Amazon reviewer uploaded a video where it launches fine, but if you look closely it is one of the lower models. I think the problem was power related so I was hoping the newest battery powered version of the screen (MB16AP) would work. (After reading some newer reviews, the battery version apparently works fine)

Pretty much Dex would load randomly on my Zenscreen and other times only screen mirroring as it would say it didn't have enough power to power the attached device (monitor). I found a work around to force Dex to launch, but it involved plugging it into a specific hub I had and then replugging it into the monitor. If you want more details check out my post history as it was quite a while ago.

Hope that helps. I'm curious to see if you end up getting a screen and how it works out.

Edit: realized I didn't fully answer your question. You can find a usbc hub with display (HDMI usually) and also offers power delivery (PD) for charging via a usbc input to plug the charging cable into. They also sell just the usbc to HDMI cable, with the PD option as well. I'd suggest a hub as they come in really small sizes now and will give you additional ports. In my story above, when Dex did load properly, if I put it into a wireless charger it would immediately crash and revert to screen mirroring.

Amazon has a ton of hubs and cables like this one: https://www.amazon.com/CHOETECH-Powering-Adapter-Thunderbolt-Compatible/dp/B078M57FVJ

I've read some posts where some of the cheaper hubs doesn't work properly so you might want to check out the reviews or the /Galaxynote9 subreddit for references/links.

I got this cable to simultaneously charge and extend my display to an ultrawide monitor and it works great! As a bonus, the cable also work as an extension charging cable in a pinch! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078M57FVJ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Dual is going to be tricky - there's only one C port, so you're going to need a dock/breakout box that does PD charging for one. Finding PD and HDMI is easy, but dual... that's much trickier. You might be able to do something where you've got a breakout that has PD, HDMI, and a usb3 port. You could then use a usb3 display adapter.

If you were talking thunderbolt ports like on the pros, it'd be a ton easier, but the macbook doesn't have thunderbolt so you're kind of hosed.

Your best bet is get a 4k@60 hz adapter with PD and use a bluetooth keyboard and mouse with a good 4k display. I have a 27" 4k and I don't really need dual monitors. When I really need another display I open the laptop up. I have a pro. My wife can use my monitor with one of the cables described.

This is the cable I have and it works quite well. Has to be USB C, not TB, or it won't work. Otherwise I'd suggest one of the very rare TB3->dual HDMI cables that are out there.

Probably, but it’s going to be a bit of a search. You’re probably going to have better luck getting an adapter box and a USB-C extension. Run that extension to the adapter behind you dash and have the 3.5mm and usb go where it needs to from there.

I did the same thing with a USB-C to HDMI (with power delivery) in my minivan for my kids to watch Netflix on the road.
