By doing that you're trading a possible minor inconvenience for a possible major infection.

Safely removing a tick involves catching it early (so inspect yourself regularly) and correctly learning to use the right tool.
They're super cheap, sold in about ever camping store and every Walmart camping section as a Keychain that will last you a lifetime :

You can also find them in single packages for 3 to 4 dollars at most stores.

Additionally you could buy the best repellents (not just for ticks but for mosquitoes and other bugs too) 100% deet or 100% permethrin also at Walmart for $9 to $14 and dilute this with half alcohol, and the deet should last you a whole year (you don't need it when it's cold outside) and the permethrin about 4 years (a deet application lasts about 10 hours, permethrin about a week if you apply it to clothes)

If you do the math it's less than 40 cents per month vs the caring for a wound and possible complications going into the several thousands of dollars.
