Rave: Vanicream Lite Lotion
I’ve been using this for 4 weeks now, and it’s become a staple. It’s wonderfully simple and sinks into the skin quickly. It doesn’t leave a film on my face and is cosmetically elegant imo. I can use this in the AM, under sunscreen & makeup without it pilling! This is the first AM moisturizer I’ve found that is so functional. I've also been using this Vanicream Moisturizer at night for awhile longer, this one is more heavy duty (I like using it as my last step to seal everything in), while the Lite Lotion is more hydrating. I suggest both these moisturizers if you have oily or sensitive skin.
New Purchases: Vanicream in the tub
I like it. I’ll use it up. I've used it for over a week, and it makes my skin soft. It has prevented dry skin so I should be satisfied. I think I’m going to try other heavy cream moisturizers after this, because I’m not wowed by it. The tub version is different than the 4 oz moisturizer in the tube, even though the ingredient lists are pretty similar. The 4 oz tube is really not greasy at all and blends into the skin quickly. The larger tub is greasier, and takes a bit longer to sink into the skin.
Cotz spf 45 lip balm
I like this one a lot! It's not too stiff or waxy, but it's also not too greasy. I chose it because of this awesome review. It has a brown tint that blends into the lips well, there's a pic in the review I linked showing how it looks on the lips.
Unrelated Rave: Redken All Soft Heavy Cream
I've tried countless drugstore hair masks, and this one beats them all. It was worth every penny. I didn't use any product afterwards and my hair was soft down to the ends, shiny, and frizz free.
Rosehip oil
Vanicream Lite instead of NMF It's more moisturizing, gentler, and cheaper.
Azaleic Acid
I am still using up my glycolic toner but will probably replace it with Pixi glow tonic.
I also tried Salicylic acid, HA, and Niacinamide from TO, but they just irritated me or broke me out, and I haven't tried replacing them yet. If I did, most of it is pretty easy to find a dupe for on Amazon. There is a master post of dupes here, for anyone interested.
>I’ve developed red flaky spots around eyebrows, temples, and side of nose.
Maybe seborrheic dermatitis? I don't have recs specifically for that, but the seb derm HG thread would!
In general though,

Face Cream:
Personally, I'd go for the Vanicream Gentle Cleanser and CeraVe Baby Cream
Remember to add new products one at a time and to wait a week or two before you add the next - that way, you can properly evaluate if the product is working for you or not
Nivea can actually be quite irritating. For one it has fragrance, which irritates a lot of people and shouldn't really be in anyones routine IMO. It also has some other ingredients that can cause problems for some people, like alcohol, lanolin, silicones, etc.
I would try something more minimal and meant for sensitive skin. Vanicream is a brand made especially for this, so I'd recommend their Lite Lotion. Cerave is another good choice. If you want to get fancy, La Roche Posay has some good products too.
As a last resort you could try Sebamed, which is aloe based and is recommended for people when every other moisturizer seems to cause problems for them.
Also you should check out this website, www.skincarisma.com, which helps to understand what ingredients are in a product and see if it's safe.
My derma recommended these:

I really like Vanicream Lite Lotion Pump for Sensitive Skin as my last step (emollient) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003XWG880/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Bb15Cb59NCPXB
Here are some affordable, lightweight, and gentle moisturizers:
Vanicream Lite Lotion
Vanicream Lite Lotion is sold in-store at most Walgreen's.
CeraVe Baby Moisturizing Lotion
This is sold in-store at some Walgreen's/CVS/Walmart.
Aquation Daily Moisturizing Lotion
The Aquation is only sold in-store at Walmart, and on walmart.com - It's $8.96 for 16 oz.

Going through the subreddit I've more or less randomly picked the following:
- Vanicream Lite Lotion Pump
- Vanicream Gentle Facial Cleanser
- Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution
- Skin Aqua UV Super Moisture Milk *PLEASE* if you have any other recommendations here it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you (:
I had a similar question with pocketderm and irritation/moisturizers. Was actually using the same cetaphil moisturizer you were. She suggested these, which don't seem to have fatty alcohols in them when I looked up the ingredients:
4. Re moisturizers, I recommend EltaMD AM, (may be used at night as well; does not contain sunscreen http://amzn.to/SoLIsA ), or Sebamed Clear Face Gel ( http://amzn.to/UxWqiu ).
Other excellent options include Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel, Vanicream Lite lotion: http://amzn.to/1rYCiom
or Vanicream Skin Cream: http://amzn.to/10GUwyU
I think that it would benefit you to moisturize, maybe try
vanicream https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003XWG880/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1491787308&sr=8-1&keywords=vanicream+lotion&dpPl=1&dpID=41u5w5Sl2hL&ref=plSrch
for the night and
cerave for mornings https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003WN1ELQ/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1491787357&sr=8-1&keywords=cerave+am&dpPl=1&dpID=51EbLYslc4L&ref=plSrch (with sunscreen) for the day? It would make your skin look softer.
You don't have to of course, just my advice.
The issue(s) you need help with:
I have had chronic skin dryness/irritation/redness/flakiness in the areas around my nose and upper cheeks for a few months. I currently have a routine, but it is obvious to me that it isn't optimal.
Skin type:
When I wake up, there may be a few flakes on my skin, and it is usually oily. But it is never intensely red/irritated
A few hours after cleansing and moisturizing, my skin will become a little oily, but some areas on my nose or sides of my face my dry up.
I would say I have pretty sensitive skin.
Current routine with the full names of your products:
Here are photos of my skin: https://imgur.com/a/zeLGX
The first photos are when I wake up. There is no intense visible redness, but there is some flakiness.
I currently shower in the morning with lukewarm water and cleanse with Vanicream gentle cleanser link. I then use Vanicream Lite lotion link. As you can see at this point in the pictures above, my face is noticeably red. Occasionally, I will feel stinging irritation, but most of the time it feels fine. After a half hour the redness goes down, and my face feels smoother, but not 100 percent smooth in all areas.
This routine has only functioned as a temporary measure until I find something more ideal. I use it because it is effective in treating the flakiness. If I don't cleanse, the area around my nose especially will generate a lot of flakes, even if it isn't particularly irritated.
I do not have a routine for the evening or night time before I go to bed. Sometimes I may just cleanse or maybe just apply some lotion, but the results in the morning aren't drastically different.
How long you have been using your current routine, or product in question:
I tried getting suggestions from this sub in September last year about gentle products for sensitive skin. I have been using these products ever since that time, but they are not ideal.
I would really welcome any help regarding this. I have dealt with it for so long and it really affects my self-image. Please let me know what I can change or fix! Thanks
This is the lotion: Vanicream Lite Lotion, For Sensitive Skin, Free of Dyes, Lanolin, Fragrance, Parabens, & Formaldehyde, 16 Ounce Pump https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003XWG880/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_h63dsk9lPQFbu
I mist my face with Fiji water and apply this when my face is still a wet-ish. It will feel almost like a gel when applied this way. I always hated heavy creams so I understand you completely.
Try taking an antihistamine such as Allegra or Claritin and see if the itching and inflammation will stop. If it does you’re clearly allergic to something. I was taking Allegra everyday trying to get the itching to stop and it helped a little...
Also get hypoallergenic EVERYTHING if you can spare the money. Go see a real derm and ask for your money back from Curology. Luckily I got my stuff for free and but still spent a fortune trying to fix what they fucked up.
It could be the method of BC you're using since you recently changed it, did you notice any correlation of your skin worsening when you did?
My suggestion aside from looking into your BC is to switch to a really bland moisturizer specifically for eczema, like Vanicream Lite. Also, using a foaming cleanser and a clairisonic sounds really drying if you have extremely dry and scaley skin. Foaming cleansers are already not recommended for dry skin, adding a physical exfoliate on top of that sounds super drying. You should look into either dropping the clairsonic, or changing to a non-foaming bland cleanser (or both, IMO).
I would slow down on any actives or scrubs until your skin can repair its moisture again.
Per a dermatologist's recommendation, I use Vanicream products: cleansing bars in the shower and lotion afterwards to prevent dryness. They have no fragrance or extra BS ingredients that irritate people's skin. And salicylic acid pads before bed if I remember / am having a breakout.
May be better to quit using soap at all as others have said, but that routine and eating clean (try Whole 30) have made a huge difference.
Hey! Currently on my last month. For facial moisturizer I use vanicream and for the rest of my body, I use whatever I have in the house. The main thing that does get dry is my face however. Just apply it every morning and every night and you should be good until you move up to a higher dose. Honestly any lotion will work for your face but try to get something that says light or lite because it won't leave your face so oily.
As far as other side effects, I haven't noticed too much joint pain(currently on 120mg per day). However your liver could take some damage, my first month my liver numbers were all really high, but i started taking milk thistle once a day and my numbers improved greatly, to the point where it was better than where I started.
For cleaning I would avoid anything made for oily skin because it will dry your skin out. Just get a normal cleanser. For now I just use water since my skin is getting better with just using the medicine.
