It is a bright screen, depending on what you upgraded from. I have the same monitor and it hurt my eyes as well, to the point where I bought this. It has helped immensely and has RGB. If you can afford it, get one.
I am actually using 4 strips in total. I remember them being a lot cheaper when I first got them, though.
Here is the link to where I got them: https://www.amazon.ca/Vansky-Lighting-Desktop-fatigue-increase/dp/B01A9RN2L2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1501100239&sr=8-2&keywords=led+backlight.
So I have one strip that goes around the back of my first monitor, and another strip that goes around the back of my second monitor. I changed both of these strips to cyan.
I then have two strips lined up at the back of my desk. I changed both of these strips to orange.
All of these strips are connected via USB. Therefore, I needed 4 USB ports to light them up.
I also did not expect the strips to be so short when they came in. I would've just gotten one strip for my desk if I actually checked the length of the strips before buying them.
this one from Amazon, though I'm sure any would do
Looks dope to me, if you want to crank your RGB up to 11. (and save your eyes at night) you can get a pair of cheap bias lighting strips on amazon. I've gotten 3 and they're way cheaper than trying to get mystic sync ones just to have them cycle colors anyway.
Ones I get are 14 bucks a pop and I've got 4 of them now.

I’ve used these Vansky LED strips from amazon and been pretty happy with them, they plug into a USB port for power instead of batteries and you can change the color of the lighting.

I had the idea of splicing the Player 3 internal controller wires into a extra USB out and then buying one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Vansky-Lighting-Powered-backlight-Desktop/dp/B01A9RN2L2/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1519781097&sr=8-4&keywords=vansky+led
Get a clear case, use as much or as little of the LEDs as you want and then plug into the internal USB port.
I can show you mine, gimme a bit and I'll update this comment.
What I bought, this is the rgb version by the way. And what it looks like behind the monitor. Sorry for the potato quality on everything, this is the desk I take to work with me also.
Thank you very much! The lighting is actually a sort of photography trick, as it's just color-cycling lights on the back of my TV combine with a panoramic photo from my phone. It just worked out that it gave it that rainbow effect.
I got these lights when they were on super sale on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01A9RN2L2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Definitely worth the price if you can snag them for around $10
Yep

I'd look into finding a nice white and black wallpaper for your set up and maybe some wall accent lighting. Those two things really help bring the whole battle station into one big piece.
these are the lights I use for wall accent
I suggest you get this if you have a large room/tv/monitor: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01A9RN2L2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_qHeEzbJWRAPRJ

USB powered! :D
This is what I use for bias lighting Vansky® Bias Lighting for HDTV USB LED Strip Multi Color RGB LED Neon Accent Lighting System Kit for Flat Screen TV LCD, Desktop PC (Reduce eye fatigue and increase image clarity) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01A9RN2L2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_aH.nxbRX6H8T6
I have both of these. The main difference is that the first one is multi-color. Also, having USB power is better than Ikea's AC power since you can plug it into your TV's USB outlet and then the lights will turn on with your TV.

I'd probably get something like this over the ikea dioders;
