I've used the Victorinox Classic for 20 years (probably had 2 in that time), and can't think of a reason to use something different.

I most often use the scissors. And put it on a brightly colored and/or reflective cord lanyard so you don't loose it.

EDIT: That link defaults to the American Flag color. I've always used red.

Edit 2: just re-weighed my knife and lanyard. 23.2 grams/ .82 oz.

Swiss Army Knife all the way man. The Victorinox Classic, or Classic Alox will serve you well. I've had an Alox Classic on my keychain for 11 years now and it looks freaking new. For $15-$25 you really can't go wrong, plus no one will ever get intimidated by one of these, in fact, I've had people tell me stories about their own SAKs that they got when they were kids, and still own to this day, after seeing my Classic Alox.

Starting from the top left to right.

  1. Micarta Yawara/Koppo/Massager made by knifemarker Mickey Yurco. Really handy for working out keyboard tension in my brachioradialis. The loop means I don't have to worry about dropping it or gripping too hard while massaging.

  2. Benchmade AFCK. This has been my EDC for about 18 years. This and/or a Spyderco Endura.

  3. deBeers LaCrosse Ball. Poor desk posture is my only occupational hazard. Lacrosse ball really helps me dig in and attack trigger points in the traps and pecs. I can also work [tactile control] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jT6RsOELikE) when i'm bored. I can also put it in a sock and swing it at people who click on phishing links.

  4. [Timex Weekender] (http://www.timex.com/weekender). Tells time, backlit in the dark. I'm happy.

  5. [Spyderco Baliyo] (http://www.baliyo.com/) is uncomfortable as a pen, but a nice creative outlet when I can't pack a nunchaku or poi to spin.

  6. [Nexus 5X] (https://store.google.com/product/nexus_5x) in [Tudia Lite] (http://www.amazon.com/TUDIA-Full-Matte-Protective-Updated-Version/dp/B015TABTSW) case. I keep a $20 stashed in the case for emergencies.

  7. [BASICS Red wallet] (http://www.basicsproducts.com/collections/basics-wallets/products/red-basics-wallet/)

  8. Keys on [S-Biner AHHH] (https://www.niteize.com/product/S-Biner-Ahhh.asp) Keys sit fairly well in pocket, and I keep my work keys on a separate loop with a tiny [Swiss Army Pocket Knife Classic] (http://www.amazon.com/Victorinox-Swiss-Classic-Pocket-Knife/dp/B0013HBJ8Q)

  9. Blistex Medicated Lip Balm.

Yah, I would recommend a Swiss Army Knife. The Classic is a good choice.

  1. It's feasible, it will be idiotic if you don't prepare. Just make sure you start in good shape, at a slow pace and your gear is appropriate and has been tested by you. When in doubt, leave it out for gear.

  2. Since you are 26 you should be able to get covered under your parents plan. It would have been better if you had started this process months ago during open enrollment, but they may be able to add you now. If that doesn't work, the next step would be ObamaCare which will probably come with a subsidy for you. After that is finding insurance on the open market - you can probably get a better deal than COBRA on your own. Last resort is COBRA but it's going to be expensive. Start looking now and figure out which will be cheapest.

  3. People tend to hire the person they'd want to have a beer with rather than the person that's best for the job. Having that on your resume will be a definite bonus in almost any career. Just make sure you word it in a way that anyone can understand. If the interviewer is the sort of stickler that can't stand anyone taking a few months off to fulfill a dream, it's probably not your ideal job anyways.

  4. I read and found value from Yogi's Guide, Ray Jardine's Trail Life and A Thru-Hiker's Heart. Skip the sewing though and take it all with a huge grain of salt. Yogi's was great at helping me figure out what to bring and how to resupply. Jardine helped me put the whole thing into perspective and A Thru-Hiker's Heart actually gave me a feel for hiking. None of them can adequately prepare you for the psychological difficulties, that you just need to work through on the trail.

  5. A pistol would be the dumbest, heaviest thing you could bring. The only thing that will attack you out there (and it's incredibly rare) would be a mountain lion. If you are attacked by one, use a rock to defend yourself. Don't bother with a big knife either, you'll only use it to cut open packages and avocados. Something like this is all you need.

Canon t2i, Pentax Vivitar 28mm @ f/8, ISO 100, 1/100, 49mm reversal ring, on camera flash with a paper envelope as a diffuser, second curtain. Handheld up to a window across the room. I used lightroom for the levels.

Its one of those small swiss army knives that are thrown in as a bonus when you buy a big one.

I'll post the 'after' one tomorrow.

Yeah, I haven't used clippers in years. I carry this little Swiss Army pocket knife everywhere I go. The scissors are the perfect size for nails and it has a built in file.

[This guy] (http://www.amazon.com/Victorinox-Swiss-Classic-Pocket-Knife/dp/B0013HBJ8Q) comes with a toothpick. You will not regret owning one of these, just keep it out of the airports.

u/nerfdude · 1 pointr/shutupandtakemymoney

awesome. this will be much more useful than the buck knife i carry around.

edit: getting this since i don't really want it to be a money clip.

Clippers? Do you mean nail clippers? Because those are incredibly uncommon on multitools. I can't think of one off the top of my head that has one.

The other tools all show up on the Vic Classic and the Leatherman Style CS, Micra, and Style. None of those have pliers, though. You didn't mention them, but if you want pliers, a knife, and tweezers on the same tool I think the Gerber Dime is one of the rare few (only?) to do that. Despite being Gerber, I hear it's OK, but take that with a grain of salt; I've never used one.

EDIT: Misplaced an "a".
