Lol wut, you can still buy the same quartz metronomes everyone's been buying for a million years for like, 20 bucks. And plenty of people do. For fuck's sake, you can still buy a damn wind-up mechanical pendulum metronome if that's what tickles your fancy. Matter of fact, there's a tiny wind-up metronome in the piano lesson room at the music store I teach at and I use it during lessons occasionally when I don't feel like getting out my phone.
but, smartphone metronome apps do exist for people who have a smartphone and would like to consolidate their shit. It serves the same purpose, what the fuck is so wrong with that? I use my metronome and chromatic tuner apps all the time and it hasn't made me a worse musician.
Don't allow noodling between songs. Distraction will run rampant if that starts.
Also, get your hands on a loud metronome, like one of these and rehearse with it.
I used the dongle once and immediately bought the Shure BT cable for my 315s. I realise this doesn't really help you though.

What do you mean by matching the tempo to the time signature? Are you confused about the relationship between these two things? What's wrong with a normal metronome like this one?
