I don't see how the link you provided would solve the issue of "stolen" work. Unless you are thinking of apartment mailboxes, it won't be secure.

Back to your original idea. It would be pretty cheap, you would need to make a 58.5"x58.5" frame from wood to stack 13x13 4" PVC tubes (4" PVC has an outer diameter of 4.5" assuming schedule 40. Make it from 1x12 material and you should be good to go. I would imaging you could make it for less than $50.

Cut List, HD or Lowes can do these cuts for you.

  • 58.5"x1"x12" pine - x2
  • 60.0"x1"x12" pine - x2

The short pieces butt into the long pieces to form a 58.5"x58.5" opening. The long pieces are 1.5" longer since the 1" thickness is actually 3/4"

Angle brackets to reinforce the corners, x8

You would need some screws and glue for the wood, some PVC glue to bond the tubes together, a drill and chop saw. A few hours of work and it should be good to go.

Your postmaster will most likely insist that you purchase a key keeper to install by the door.

Once you get it installed, then a USPS employee comes out and installs a USPS lock inside. You'll put the key or combo code inside the key keeper.

Install it and call office to have an arrow lock installed. Usps should technically have a key to bypass digital entry. But maybe the carrier could leave the code inside.
