(Part 2) Reddit mentions: The best nail polish

Sorry for the late response, busy day! If she's into stamping, I really like this set of stamping plates, but if you're not sure if she already stamps, you might want to get her a stamper too.

For more unique colors, I like shopping online a lot more than ULTA type stores (although those are great places to get polishes on clearance). ULTA should definitely have holo polishes though, and probably a few duochromes! I really like Color Club Beyond in the holos category (actually, all the Color Club holos are great! Probably the best ones IMO). As for duochromes, glitterbombs, and jelly glitters, I think indies are definitely the way to go. Check out this site, it has BUNCH of different indie brands, and the shipping is pretty fast. In particular, look at Enchanted Polish, Glimmer by Erica, A England, Hare Polish, Jindie, Ozotic (I have been trying REALLY HARD to resist this temptation especially), and Picture Polish. The last two jelly glitters I linked are from Sonnetarium and The Hungry Asian. I also really like Pretty and Polished on Etsy.

I also wouldn't rule out Amazon completely. A lot of polishes actually come from the same shippers, and usually shipping is really fast, and pretty cheap. China Glaze for example retails for $6-7, and they're usually $5 including shipping from Amazon. Also, shopping online is just easier :P For a few pretty unique colors, try China Glaze Some Like it Haute, Essie Bikini So Teeny, and Butter London Knackered.

One last thing, I forgot to mention another favorite luxury brand -- Deborah Lippmann! Seriously, if she's really into polish, getting a Butter or a DL will probably make her happier than getting the equivalent value in other brands, even if that doesn't make much sense.

Such a great idea, especially for those of us trying to build our collections. I don't own most of these, so I mention it if I do. Here are my favorites:

12. Glitter: opi muppets collection, Miss Piggy, Fresh Frog of Bel Air, or Gone Gonzo I love glitters so it was hard to pick one! I like that these have multiple sizes/colors of the glitter
    
13. BONUS Purple: Zoya Savita

I use Zoya Purity ($7.75 Amazon), Zoya Christinna (pearly - $7.75 Amazon), OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls ($6.85 Amazon), and OPI Alpine Snow ($5.89 Amazon) for most of my white manis and I have had good results. They are all usually two-coater polishes just to even things out and prevent bald spots and streakiness, but I enjoy them :) China Glaze Dandy-Lyin' Around is another great pearly white that I love ($4.93 Amazon)!

I have also heard great things about Essie Blanc ($5.74 Amazon), China Glaze White on White ($4.75 Amazon), and Cult Nails Tempest is apparently a one-coater and perfection (though it is $12) :)

I was thinking that she could get:

-Wet n' Wild Blazed. it may not look to amazing in this picture, but it's a fantastic coral color that is perfect for summer.
-China Glaze for Audrey. I know it has been mentioned here before, but omg, someone polished me with it a few months ago and I'm so in love. Everyone needs this color.
-OPI Russian Navy. I noticed this was mentioned as well, but I am a huge advocate for it, everyone needs a nice dark polish. I have been lusting after this one for a while. It looks stunning on its own, as well as a matte.
-For good measure, she needs a good top coat. Poshe. I used to use Seche Vite, but switched to Poshe when I realized how thick Seche Vite gets about halfway through the bottle (I don't have this issue with Poshe until the end of the bottle).

1. For the last 10 or so years, I was a nail biter. My nails were super short and nothing I did would last. I'd take having no artistic ability over having close to nothing to work with! Thankfully, in the past year or so I believe I broke the habit for good.
   
   
2. I have yet to own an indie, but Oh Splat looks like a jawbreaker and that's fun! There's also an indie polish somewhere that has star glitter and has a Doctor Who name to it, but I can't find it for the life of me right now.

For a blue I think this would be awesome! It's a darker blue like the hoodie, and the swatches look fantastic with shine and with a matte top coat!

Hmmm, you said we could collage multiple pictures into one image but I'm not sure how to do that. But here's an album of my dog Hank (aka, Hanky Panky or the Hanksters). If I have to choose one image it would be this one. We named him Hank because he was found on a ranch. He was a puppy when we got him from the rescue, he is half Pointer and the other half they don't know but suspect it's Griffon. Even though I trained him he is the family dog, so I had to leave him when I moved away a two weeks ago. My family home is also a foster home, usually with 5 to 8 kids, and he is super great with the kids (one kid even bites him and he doesn't bite back). I love Hank because he always wants to play, he has never hurt anyone and he seems to really understand emotions. Once I was really sad and I started crying and he came and just rested his head on my shoulder, it was so so sweet I just held on to him until I felt better. I miss my Hank!

I'd really like this nail polish if I win; I actually don't own any nail polish yet.

This is simple, but wow is it pretty.


I'd love to try fairy dust

You might say, "How could a nail polish top coat be so awesome?"

Have you ever had to pee 10 minutes after you've finished your nails? Or had an itch? Or needed to use your hands in some way within the typical HOUR it takes for normal nail polish to dry? Or had chips the next day? Your life is about to change.

Before I discovered this top coat, I'd use a base coat, wait 3 minutes, put on one coat of polish, wait 3 minutes, a second coat, 3 minutes, then top coat. And wait an hour before doing anything. Otherwise I ended up with smudges, or at the very least, fingerprints. Since I've switched, I don't wait between coats at all. After I finish my last finger, I start back on the first hand. After applying HK Girl top coat, it's dry to the touch after 5 minutes. It is completely dry in 10 minutes. HONESTLY. And I had the same polish for a solid week with ZERO chips (though the tips were wearing down). You. Need. This.

She does have some great tutorials! If you haven't already check out Kelli Marrisa and Cute Polish! They have really easy to follow beginner tutorials :) Your nails will grow out in no time as long as you keep polish on them and don't use them for absolutely anything! I think it was Christine from Simply Nailogical that said "Nails are not tools" and that has really stuck with me.


I just saw that you asked for base and top coat suggestions. I use Out the Door top coat and Nail Tek2 base coat(my nails are a bit bendy and this base helps with that)


Seche Vite is also a pretty good quick dry top coat buuuut it's expensive, gets goopy half way through the bottle, and is notorious for shrinking (Pulling polish back from the free edge). Out the door so far hasn't had any of those problems for me and can come in a huge bottle for fairly cheap!

You can tell I've REALLY thought about this...

It might take a while before I can get a mani done for this if it has to be a new one. I've got too much BS going on these days.
I decided to go with this mani because it was one of the few times I actually got to take the time to do "art".

I do not know any men that would allow me to paint their nails in any capacity. This is a bummer for me. I did, however, paint the nails of a robot hand today. Even gave it stiletto tips... Sadly I do not know it's true gender so I don't think it will count.
I'm still working on finding the time to paint my coworkers nails..we've been super busy at work (we only get 15 minute breaks and I know he'll want to remove it ASAP so I have to move fast) Hopefully I'll return soon....

Seche Restore is the gold standard, but I'm not sure how much of it is hype.

The only one I've personally used is Beauty Secrets, which is a Sally Beauty supply brand, and it costs about 3 dollars for 4 oz in store, which is way cheaper than most of the high end thinners. You should be able to get thinner at any beauty supply place, but just make sure you read the ingredients and make sure it doesn't have acetone in it, because I know at least one cheap brand does, and that will ruin your polish eventually.

Skincare Rave I just started oil cleansing with evening primrose oil, and I really enjoy seeing the makeup just melt off on my cotton ball. Weirdly satisfying. I haven't completely converted over from cleansing with cold cream, but it might be coming. (And no breakouts! No rosacea flair ups!)

Makeup Rave I got Bite Lip Crayons a while back, but recently added the Red Velvet color to my 'daily face'. Love it! It stays so much better than regular lipstick, while also not being as drying as regular matte lippies. The color is BOLD and awesome. :)

Makeup Rant I decided to try out Jane Iredale Liquid Minerals foundation for its 'natural' blah blah. I hate it. The coverage is non-existent in my color (palest). Like I literally feel like it's clear, and I'm just putting moisturizer on my face. Yah for wasting $50!

Nailcare Rant of the friggin year - OPI Nail Envy for Sensitive/Peeling! This little bottle of nail death has KILLED all the progress I've made on my nails over the last few months. I've been taking Biotin and adding collagen to my coffee, and my nails have flourished! Then I use this Nail Envy crap on my fingernails just for the heck of it (cause I got it for my toes), and I have had broken nail after broken nail after friggin broken nail!

Also, that collagen I linked above - I'm in love! I got it because my mom read that it's good for thyroid/autoimmune issues, and I've noticed a significant increase in my energy level on top of the nice hair and nail growth...minus the sad effect of body hair ALSO growing in faster, haha.

I've tried a ton of different top coats (OPI, Essie, Butter, sally hansen, etc) but I always end up coming back to Out the Door. It comes in a GIANT bottle and lasts forever (it's been almost 2 years since I bought one and it's 2/3 gone). It dries super quickly, doesn't cause bubbles, and makes my nails stronger and really shiny.

I feel like mine is pretty out of control, in that I only started a nail-specific wishlist about a week ago & it's already 4 pages long. I'm lusting over a whole host of Chanel colours, specifically Graphite & Black Pearl. But also Butter London's Gobsmacked & Tart with a Heart. And, I'm dying to get my hands on some Matte About You.

Realistically, my next purchase will likely be China Glaze's Some Like It Haute and/or Concrete Catwalk.

My hobby is painting my nails! Here are only a few designs that I did I am absolutely obsessed with painting my nails. I have 102 bottles of polish with more coming on the way! I spend a lot of my time painting my nails and feel naked without a manicure. This would help me because it's one of the best top coats to put on your nails. It doesn't shrink your manicures or anything! I really need this so I can admire my hard worked manicures much longer, mine only last about 2 days with the top coat I am using now. All that hard work for nothing!

I took the bite and bought the seche vite and was disappointed because the tips retract as the top coat dries and after a few days the top coat lifts by itself... Meh... So much for all those good reviews. I bought one from Amazon that's called out the door and I've always liked it a lot because it's very liquidy, goes on smooth, doesn't make the color polish retract, dries quickly, and a few days after, it doesn't peel off. So, I guess that's my holy grail.

The TARDIS: Modern Motif, gel polish by Finger Paints - cured then drawn on with Kiss Nail Art Paint in white, black and silver.

Galaxy Nails: Followed this tutorial using .99 cent Sally Girl Polish in Mean Streak, Green, Luv It and Groovy. Then got the stars with one coat of Fairy Dust by China Glaze and a few big dots on each nail from Dime Piece

I use Seche Vite all the time and love it. It doesn't dry COMPLETELY in 30 seconds, but my nails are dry to the touch in 2-3 minutes and completely dry after about 10.

One caveat: once you open the bottle, the polish dries out really quickly. I do my nails twice a week with Seche Vite and the bottle gets goopy after around 3 months of regular use. Seche Vite sells a product called Restore that you can use to thin the polish out.

We can look like a Rockstar with essie Cute as a Button (It's 90c over D: ) or this Awesome stainless steel.

Update for those who asked: the nail polish is China Glaze in Turned Up Turquoise -- I've had the color sitting in my cabinet for years and my husband, serendipitously, chose it for me to paint. Having spend the day in it, it's a little chip-y, but not terribly so, and it does dry very quickly!

This CG Fairy Dust for $4.50 because it says it's discontinued, and I'll die if I don't get it before it's gone. Lol. And I clearly feeling very dramatic today.
