Sure, here's the gear my friend and I settled on,
Dakine Wyeast Jacket
Volcom Klocker Pants
Burton Mitts
DC Mittens
Bonfire Eager Jacket
Dakine Artillery Pants
Burton Ruler Snowboard Boot
DrSkin Base Layer
Baleaf Running Pants
Moisture Wicking Athletic Shirt
Burton Socks
Quarter Zip Fleece
Crash Pants
Wrist Guards
Helmet
Fleece SA Face Shield
That's about all of it. I use some Underarmor cold gear that I've had for years as my base layer. It's pretty old and the elastic has degraded but it keeps me plenty warm. The DrSkin is probably just as good and a helluva lot cheaper. You can get beanies and thin balaclavas from Amazon pretty cheap. I picked up Spy goggles from e-bay and was pretty satisfied with them (definitely get some you can swap lenses with).
Also crash pants / pads.
I also just started, Friday was my first time on a snowboard. Loved it!
I got this of amazon for like $20....https://www.amazon.com/JBM-Adjustable-Protective-Multi-sports-Purpose/dp/B014UO0EGG/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1483286455&sr=8-4&keywords=crash+pants
Helps protect your tailbone/butt when you fall square on it.....which you will probably do quite a few times. I highly recommend, your non-hurt tail bone will thank you!
Nice dude! I'm glad I inspired you! I definitely used kneepads when I first started, when I was learning heel slides and still use them when I occasionally go to the skatepark on my cruiser. Also here is link again for those hip pads https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BR1LTZQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
A lot of them don't protect the hip right, they are padded lower or front / back. I like the cheapo Body Prox crash shorts. They're super comfy and protect the hip nice. Just looks like you have a phone / wallet in your pockets when you wear them.
Edit: These
Yup. Bodyprox Protective shorts. When I ride to work in full padding, most of the time I’ll just leave them on as they’re very comfortable. Contour-wise, they’re quite flattering. Makes me look like I do deadlifts.

I'm 42. I bought these last year. Best money I've ever spent. Pretty discrete, too. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004IUJEDW/
Pads I've really liked these for the value.
Butt/hip
I feel like hips are under talked about. After my first fall I got these. My hips were the most bruised up part. Even months later I can feel it.
Bought these on Amazon

There are more expensive ones but these work just fine to protect my tail bone. Keeps your ass warmer too lol.
It's totally normal, and you kinda gave the answer yourself! I started skating again after about 18 years and my muscles had no damn clue what they were doing. But sticking to it your muscles begin to learn and get stronger, and in turn you begging to get more control. I'm 37 and 220 and took a nasty fall about a month ago, but it gets better.
I could give you 2 advices:
(it's not essential but it can help).
Armor!

I've been looking for one myself, but I'm too cheap to pay for the nice less bulky looking ones which cost $60 plus.
Pro Tec has a hip pad that looks exactly what I'm looking for but I can't find a local dealer.

On Amazon I was looking at these, but they look a bit bulkier than the protec, plus its not a know brand as protec.

I wear these every day and I'm an advanced rider. I really wish I had invested in these when I was learning!
Hello all, I was wondering if you guys could give a recommendation on some impact shorts for snowboarding. I have narrowed it down to 4 based upon price and availability to me in Vancouver.
The creme of the crop seems to be skeletools and azzpadz, but those are a little hard to get a hold of, as far as I can tell, in Vancouver.
So if you could either recommend one of the four I have pre-selected, or if you think I'm way off base on something and letting me know. My budget is $150.

for purchasing one of these type deals
I bought two 1/8 inch thick plastic sheets, stuck them into the oven for like five minutes, and wrapped them around my thighs (make sure to put a towel around your leg first)
Let yourself heal up first. Then when you are ready to get back into it wear one of these.

> Do you have a particular shoe/boot that you like to wear during the rainy dark days that so many of my coworkers have warned me about?
I recommend sandals and wool socks...
...or simply going to REI and asking them for advice as they have lots of grippy footwear.
Pro tip: Avoid metal grates, plates, and manhole covers on hills on wet days.

next time try the helmet on your head!
this is for your ass
I remember not buying a cup but having these padded sliding shorts from my baseball gear (later compression shorts)
modern ones have even more padding
teenagers are dumb, I remember our pitchers' gf doing cup checks in the dugout
Also look for snowboard/skiing crash pads. Same thing as the football compression shorts but with more ass padding.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0756DDVJ5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_LqWACbNXAA6E3
I prefer ones with a strap. Feels less restricting, protector stays in place fine, less likely to overheat. I don't have the POC one but I have something similarly built: https://www.amazon.com/Arva-ARVA-Stunter/dp/B01EOM3N1C
One con, the bottom part of the pad on the strap versions can pop out of the bottom of your pants, which is a little bit of a pain. Especially annoying for me because I sometimes wear impact shorts, and they can bump up against each other in annoying ways.
I'll probably get downvoted for speaking badly about a Burton product (even though I love Burton) but I have the Burton shorts. They suck imo. The G Form padding is hard and actually hurt me more. At 160 CDN it was a waste of money. I bought a pair of 30 CDN chinese made crash pants off Amazon. The company is Wolfbike but there's a whole bunch of different ones exactly the same. They work WAY better for a fraction of the price. They also fit over your base layers and are almost un-noticeable compared to the compression style Burton shorts which were suprer tight around my thighs at the cuffs of them and drove me nuts. Couldn't wait to get them off of me. Just my opinion though. First time I have ever been disappointed with a Burton product. https://www.amazon.com/Wolfbike-Padded-Protective-Compression-Shorts/dp/B015MHVMSO/ref=mp_s_a_1_16?crid=J06M10M9G1LV&keywords=wolfbike&qid=1551038428&s=gateway&sprefix=wolfbik&sr=8-16
Don't let the price fool you. These actually do the job quite well.
