> Eye-opening. Thank you so much!!
Bureaucracies -- that is governments and other organizations & entities which are not subject to the "rule" of a free marketplace (and some others, like international/multinational companies which partially are) -- have a tendency to "expand the work/workers" in an exponential (and self-feedback) fashion like that. IOW it isn't "unique" to "social work" (just perhaps more egregious there).
--
The "classic" work on it is from circa 1955/1957 by C. Northcote Parkinson, entitled "Parkinson's Law" and published first as an essay with that title in The Economist (and then later expanded and published as a book in 1957) -- wherein he shows and the explains how the number of Admirals paradoxically increased across multiple decades, despite an actual & substantial decrease in the number of ships in the British Navy; and again how the number of "Colonial Office Officials" eventually quadrupled from 1932 to 1954 -- at the same time that Britain's colonies were becoming independent, and it's "Colonial Empire" being disbanded.
--
A more recent, and IMO even more illuminating work is the circa 1996 book (actually series of essays) by John L. Mcknight entitled "The Careless Society: Community And Its Counterfeits" wherein he dissects -- in a surgical if rather brutal "skewering" fashion -- the "invasion of 'helping' professionals into communities" and the the many and major debilitating effects they have (i.e. creating an expanding self-feedback system that is not only counterproductive and parasitic, but inevitably "kills" the proverbial host).
--
If you have the stomach for it, and WANT your eyes open even further... I highly recommend reading both (Parkinson's essay is available FREE from the online link I provided, and is both a VERY humorous and entertaining {as well as educational} read; and McKnight's book is available as ebooks, and very probably cheap in paper/print from "used" book vendors; as likely so is Parkinson's subsequent book... as both have been in continuous publication across the decades).
> How did y’all learn how to start saying no ?
Read No More Mr. Nice Guy. For the cheap, full text at https://archive.org/stream/RobertGloverNoMoreMrNiceGuy/Robert_Glover_-_No_More_Mr_Nice_Guy_djvu.txt
You are people pleasing, and need to be assertive.
This generally has to do with craving approval.
You need self approval. Perhaps by developing moral standards of behavior and judging yourself by those, instead of how happy people around you are, or how "well liked" you are.
As I have aged I have gotten much more disagreeable, in the sense of the big 5 personality model.
My attitude is very MGTOW - if you don't like me or how I behave, don't let the door hit you in the ass.
I know that I am a good person, because I know what my morality is and I know that I stick to it instead of caving due to weakness or craving or convenience. Since I know that I am good, idgaf if you think that or not.
---
Wisdom helps too.
I have learned from the Buddhists that graciously accepting gifts allows other people to exercise their generosity.
I have extended this. Accepting praise allows others to exercise their pro-social inclinations, and thus makes the world a better place. (Ditch public professions of modesty - just say thanks, but don't let it swell your head!)
In the same way, helping people can cripple the development of their self reliance.
Without consequences, growth will not occur. This is why fathers are much more important than mothers; rather than smother and protect they push the little ones out of the nest, just as much as the little ones can handle.
Why did she trust someone undependable? Why was she partying on her last nickle? (Being a cock tease to sponge free drinks?) Why is she even broke at all - no job, no budget, no limits on spending?
Here's what I learned in sales management, about the design of incentive programs: people do what you pay them for. Tie bonus to design wins, get a lot of low-volume junk designs. Tie incentives to volume, find salesmen tanking the price to get volume. It's actually quite a challenge to get right.
So you are incentivizing this chick to be irresponsible, by supporting that behavior.
Whatever you pay for, you will get more of!
No More Mr Nice Guy was the book I was referring to - hopefully other commenters can offer more examples.
I've been reading A Guide to the Good Life: The Ancient Art of Stoic Joy & Enchiridion by Epicurus for some easy-to-digest MGTOW philosophy which has crossed nicely into the mainstream. For fiction I'd hugely recommend Whatever by Michel Houellebecq & Lights Out in Wonderland by DBC Pierre (one of my all-time favourites.)
To be fair, Bukowski can be read to help with the "Don't Give A Fuck" attitude that can help build your confidence. He tends to see women without the rose-tinted glasses, to put it delicately. He's written lots of poetry but his novels are the best. Bluebird is one of my favourite poems by him. Post Office is one of his great novels.
That's all I can think of for now.
Check out a book called "The Mind Illuminated". It's a pretty comprehensive roadmap.
As for gaining perspective in general, I'd recommend picking up a copy of the Taoteching. (My favorite currently is https://www.amazon.com/Lao-tzus-Taoteching-Lao-Tzu/dp/1556592906/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1518794667&sr=8-2&keywords=tao+te+ching+red+pine )
It's a book that has inspired many for thousands of years, and Taoism has many interesting influences in popular culture. (The Big Lebowski, The Matrix, Star Wars, etc...) Additionally Leibniz (The creator of Binary Code) was inspired by the I Ching. The Taoteching is a bit easier to get into though, and it's a book you can reference and re-read infinitely and keep getting new interesting insights from.
> I don't know if it's a trait I've inherited from my Dad as he's pretty "beta"
Kids want to see their parents as flawless. They want to respect them, etc. It's a natural thing to do.
Your dad is 'pretty beta', so you've unconciously learned and adapted to be 'lesser' than him, in order to keep seeing him as a respectable man you look up to and learn from.
Kids adapt to please their parents when they (the parents) are emotional immature people.
This book might help you with it.
It may be too soon as you haven't pulled the plug... Look into ProStar on Amazon. That is the name for the US model I bought. Essentially, a Clevo p650HS-G with i7-770HQ, gtx 1070, 512gb SSD , 1TB 7200rpm hdd, 16GB ram, and 120hz g-sync screen . lots of other tidbits too.
I paid 1700 and have been very very pleased. It will be hard letting your alienware go but I think once you settle in with a new model, you'll be extra grateful for that time that you were led to it. Stay strong man. Most people don't get five years . lots of love and levels await you.

First off, if you haven't heard of the flavor bible yet it sounds like something you would get a lot of value out of. Very useful when coming with a new meal/recipe as well as seeing what interesting combos out of whatever is left in the pantry and the book as a guide.
https://www.amazon.com/Flavor-Bible-Essential-Creativity-Imaginative/dp/0316118400
Second, I don't think what you have experienced is a problem at all. You've simply developed higher standards than our current society. This is not a bad thing. Societal standards in all areas need to be brought back up, IMO.
Oddly, enough it's my birthday today and instead of having my parents pay the bill at an expensive restaurant I decided I would rather stay in and cook a meal I really want to enjoy with my family.
These are all very large topics and it's hard posting it all in a single reddit post and do them all justice. I will help with the first one to just get you started. The rest you will have to look into yourself. Google searching and youtube are good places to start. In general if it it sounds crazy enough to be conspiratorial while being plausible, it is most likely true.
That is correct. The other option is to do nothing (one dentist said that is an option). Even though it is pain free most of the time, I'm not sure that is a good option. If I brush too hard or eat nuts on that tooth then I can feel it. It's not excruciating pain nor does it last but it isn't like it should be.

Good points. There is an option to get an implant but the endo told me that this is a little more difficult since that tooth is so close to the sinuses, so I would need a sinus lift on top bone graft. The cost is approx 4k (and a couple more grand for a sinus lift), while RC + crown is 2.2k.

That said, I have been reading some not-so-great things about root canals which led me to this book which has a lot of good reviews:

https://www.amazon.com/Root-Canal-Cover-George-Meinig/dp/0916764095/

It says that root canals can lead to other diseases since it can trap bacteria that goes through one's bloodstream. Not sure how much credibility the author has but it is written by a former dentist. There's really no good solution, it's pretty much a choice of the lesser of two evils.
All these books are very controversial even (or especially) in this subreddit. Opinions go from "this book is trash" to "this book saved from suicide". I am not exaggerating. I will not comment on their virtues and shortcomings so you can make up your own mind. Perhaps you can begin by reading the first chapter and see which one resonates more with you.
I wish you the best. Welcome to MGTOW.

RECORD EVERYTHING!!!!!
I know its too late now but
RECORD EVERYTHING!!!!
THESE THINGS ARE AWESOME AND ONLY COST $200,,,, RECORD EVERYTHING!!!!
Give him the book "The Rational Male" and "Men on Strike" lol

Just tell him you don't want to be a third wheel and that you respect his girlfriend, but feel weird about being part of a trike..
There is nothing wrong with saying that you want to have some "Bro time", because you are kinda burned out from dealing with all the
womenstresses at work all the time. Makes you sound like an awesome dude, while kinda getting the point across. Plus he's your brother, he should understand, right?I would check out /r/dashcam for some cheap but effective one. Personally, look no further than this beast It's got dual camera - front and rear, decent night vision and my personal favorite, it has a swivel so incase you get pulled over, you can move it to face your window. Double check with your recording laws with law enforcement.
Two books for you OP.

Siemens EQ9 S900 - coffee maker with Wifi, HomeConnect and works fine with Alexa.
https://www.amazon.de/Siemens-TI909701HC-Kaffeevollautomat-Keramik-mahlwerk-Bohnenbehälter/dp/B01LIT43A4/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?__mk_de_DE=ÅMÅŽÕÑ&keywords=siemens+eq9+s55+alexa&qid=1555518182&s=kitchen&sr=1-1-fkmr0
Once HomeConnect is connected to the Alexa skills you can tell Alexa to turn on your coffee maker from your bed in the morning (or your car in the evening)
Or tell Alexa that you want a DoubleShot Latte Machiatto with intensive roast and 300ml of it.
Of course you can also access the "Barista" mode (make your coffee as you wish) either on the machine (includes storing your personal coffee in user profiles) or by the App on the phone.
You can also "waitress" and ask your guests for the coffee they want, select them in the App and the machine will quickly make one coffee after the other once you give the Go, all you do is switch the cups. For recurring guests or family members you can create their own user profiles.
You can include it into the Alexa routines (turn on light, play music on Alexa in the kitchen, turn on coffee maker..)
And of course, you can download various coffees of the world into your app and machine in the "coffee world" tab of the App.
And if you buy such a machine, also buy the milk-adapter and take the milk straight from the package instead of using the included milk tank.

Yes, it was expensive, on the other hand I do not booze but I like my coffee.
It's not a conspiracy guys.
The old blog posts and research projects were mostly from one of the cofounders - Christian Rudder. Who has a BS in Mathematics from Harvard.
OkCupid was sold in 2011. (Though I think Christian Rudder did occasionally still post there.)
He went on to compile and expand on the themes from his OkCupid blog posts, in his book "Dataclysm."

Check it out. It's a fun read.
if want more depth, I recommend the book where the info came from:
https://www.amazon.com/Dataclysm-Identity-What-Online-Offline-Selves/dp/0385347391
I found the book in the most useful Internet website after pornhub: libgen.io
Someone posted this book here months ago. The books is written by the (co-)founder of Okcupid himself. He shows with numbers and statistics what we've talked about here for years.
Sounds like you'd enjoy reading Walden.

You should read No More Mr Nice Guy.
I hear ya. I'm also tired of this life. The only thing that keeps me alive is my faith in God and realizing that this life is only temporary.
I'm not going to preach here, because everyone has the ability to look things like this up for themselves. Some more practical advice:
You might want to check out this book. I'm quite critical when it comes to these kind of books, but this one has 'opened my eyes' a bit when it comes to parents.
The red pill is essentially applied evolutionary psychology. The most prominent red pill book is Rollo Tomassi's The Rational Male. These theories explain a lot of social problems we have, as described in The Misandry Bubble. MGTOW use this information (part 3) to increase the quality of the individual man's life (part 5).
There is a book about it: https://www.amazon.com.br/Dataclysm-Identity-What-Online-Offline-Selves/dp/0385347391
uhm...... what?! dunno if trolling or serious.
I ment this https://www.amazon.com/Rational-Male-Rollo-Tomassi/dp/1492777862
A man doesn't have to be exclusively straight in order to qualify for white-knighting. Biologically, every man has the instinct to spread his seed to as many women as possible regardless of sexuality.
Even nice guys fool themselves into thinking that they aren't influenced by pussy just because they're gay.
