I really can't tell you anything about your actual problem because I'm not very knowledgeable on the issue, but if you need HDMI cables these state they're HDCP compliant and if you get them from a third party seller they're around $4 (w/ free shipping) for the package of two. These are the ones I always buy and they haven't failed me yet.
this is a simple fix.
use you dvi-d to vga adapter that should have came with your GPU and then purchase a hdmi to dvi adapter like this and a hdmi cable like this
