If your using your father's optic be sure to get a bb shield so you don't get your dad's optic shot out.
Interesting idea... I can attest that, even playing AIRSOFT, you wind up with broken optics occasionally... Has happened to me PLENTY of times; someone tries to shoot me in the face while I'm shooting them and if you don't have an optic protector (something like [this] (https://www.amazon.com/Sports-Protector-Tactical-Scope-Black/dp/B00CWMJDRA)), your optic will likely get hit with a BB and break or fracture.
Not sure this would be good to implement in a game, but it could add to the realism... I know it happens in airsoft - I assume it happens in battle as well.
Its a scope protector. They have them on Amazon for like $10-15 with prime 2 day shipping. Here is the one i bought.
