Definitely tell her about it. I first learned about it from a coworker who had to keep her litter box in her college dorm bedroom because the bathroom was one of those you share with 10 other girls. Keeping it clean is definitely key, but that's not just to avoid smell but also to make your cat happy. :) This is the starter kit - you do have to buy pad refills (the original brand ones are pretty pricey, but Amazon makes a 1:1 knock off which are $22 for 40 pads). The pellets are cheapest at PetCo, Walmart and Chewy.com !
