high output impedance will mess with the low end response of the HD598. So in this case a decent entry level amplifier can actually improve your experience.

Something like this is all you need for the 598.

Spotify Premium is fine for most stuff...only most of their remasters are brickwalled trash

Monoprice USB DAC is an OEM'd $30 XtremPro USB DAC anyways.

That thread led me to a test he did on another product with a similar form factor:

Review and Measurements of Speaka USB DAC and Headphone Amplifier

[edit]: This one is available in the U.S. under the name XtremPro.

XtremPro X1

It's an AudioQuest Dragonfly 1.2 for 30 bucks.

If you just have a sennheiser game and a momentum than this would serve you fine https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FQHBDI4 it's really all you need but if you want to spend a bit more this will work https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073SSNMKK either will drive your headphones well

If you want a dirt cheap semi-decent usb solution:

https://www.amazon.com/XtremPro-Portable-USB-Headphone-Amplifier/dp/B01FQHBDI4/

It uses the Sabre 9023 DAC, which should be a definite upgrade over onboard.

From cheap to more expensive: pixel 2 dongle, this thing although unavailable atm, used to cost 33 bucks, monoprice desktop amp or dac x6. All of the stuff I've mentioned so far also includes a dac section btw. The former two are a bit limited in power, the latter two have enough power for a hd6xx but have a fairly high output impedance, this is not an issue with the hd6xx though. For a dedicated amp at a bit higher price I quite like the magnis from schiit, magni2(u) or magni3 would be more than fine for a hd6xx and most other headphones.

This is far from the end of it. Monoprice discontinued their branded version, but there are clearly other suppliers of this like that "article" mentions. I was able to find one on amazon within 30 seconds:

As I said previously on my old threads, if AQ didn't put so much money into lawyering-up, maybe they'd have more affordable products. The performance differences between the "inferior knockoff" and the official 1.2 probably are measurable, but audible? Also up for debate. AQ does have a legitimate claim for use of the wavelength, they even originally mentioned on the product listing on their website (and the product manual) that wavelength is a copyright of AQ.. Unless AQ manages to sue the OEM directly (and I wish them luck finding it) these will probably continue to be built and supplied for the foreseeable future.

Since you never know what kind of setup you'll be using in the future, the pcie soundcard is the least logical. Your best bet is the SMSL M2 Pro of those since it's the most powerful of the 4 and is still the same cost. There is the wait factor though through gearbest. Something I would recommend would be a USB dac akin to Audioquest Dragonfly Black/Red, but isn't $200 -- Something like this $32 XtremPro Portable USB DAC. It seems to beat out the popular Dragonfly Black and is 1/3 the cost and comes in cheaper than your other options. I haven't heard it though, so I can't fully recommend it but it does have a ESS Sabre™ DAC 9023 in it, so there's that.

I saw another post on reddit about a rebranded Audioquest Dragonfly 1.2. The product is no longer in stock on monoprice and this seems to be the exact same thing. Is it worth the money? My current cans are the AD900x

something like this would already be an upgrade if you can hear static from the GPU or noise from USB devices.
