...for a stupid reason, Well I just got my Car fixed which costed me $575 and today I had to get new tires and might as well throw in a oil change so that was $307,only to be told my 2 front tire rods are nearly shot and need to be replace along with a tire hub which will cost a future $500. My 2 back lower teeth are rotting away, my back upper tooth has a damn cavity, and one of my insicors is 2/3 gone in the front so they REALLY hurt so I called my dentist to set up an appointment and they do NOT look at your teeth unless they clean them, so just going to the dentist and have them just look at my teeth is going to cost me $229 not to mention future visits to get teeth possibly Capped/pulled/filled. Yesterday my video card died (HD Radeon 4890) and I called the local comp place to see a replacement, the guy on the phone said yeah we have a 6450 for $70, I go and pick it up and have it put in by a friend, it's not a gaming card, its this http://www.amazon.com/Asus-Radeon-Silence-Profile-PCI-Express/dp/B004X8EO6Q , so now since I opened the box I cant return it and now I have to buy a better one, and no I don't know a thing about building computers, just know how to play them. Not to mention it's hard to save money when you deliver newspapers to make a living and half your pay check goes right back into the gas tank. And what set me off this morning is that 3 months ago I bought my brother a really nice elephant statue for his birthday, which is today. Today of all days my cat decided to knock it off my desk and break it as soon as he shows up. Yeah..... I know I'm crying over things that doesn't involve me loosing someone, but it just seems when something happens and I pay to get it fixed, something else always happens. Also Allergies.

this has an HDMI and DVI output.

Thanks this is all really helpful.

The PC is a secondary for me- I use it mostly to play movies and the occasional low-impact game. I don't know if it would be worth it for me to get a new power supply as well.

I just purchased the Asus Radeon which I read up, runs cool and uses negligible amount of power (~27watts max).

Do you think if I disconnected a defunct CD Drive from the power supply, it would free up enough power to allow the system to work smoothly? Without having to replace the power supply? Or am I putting a band-aid on a stab wound?

Kinda, its a low profile card but doesn't have a low profile bracket so you'd need to buy that separately and you'd need another one to hold the vga (like the ones I linked).

So the one monitor only has vga but I may trash it, the quality is low. The other one has vga and DVI. And yes I read that my graphics card needs to be low profile and the power source is 270 or 275. Can't remember.

If I were you, I would use the old PC to run XBMC to play all your local files, Chromecast to play Netflix, and PS3 for blu-rays. To setup your old computer just grab a DVI-to-HDMI adapter for your 8800GT and use a toslink cable for 5.1 audio assuming this is your motherboard. If you do not have a toslink port then grab one of these to get audio, just know it'll only be 2.0. If you upgraded your graphics card to a 6450 you'd get HD audio and video through HDMI.

So I'm looking to upgrade my computer and I know next to nothing about how to do that. I'm not looking at spending more than $200 or so, MAYBE up to $300. To that end, I've asked people for some help. Two of my friends are helping me out, and I've received conflicting opinions about GPUs. They both suggest that I get this one, but one says that I should get a dedicated GPU as well, because she insists that they will work together to process graphics. My other friend says that that wouldn't happen. What should I do?

Also, is thermal paste worth it?

EDIT: I'd also like some opinions on whether this is all that better than this and whether it's worth the extra money. I'm just trying to get the biggest bang for my buck without my PC becoming irrelevant within a few years. I don't mind eventually having to run games on medium or medium-low or whatever, I just want to be able to run things at 60 FPS and minimal lag without breaking my bank.
