This is also true for the German Amazon: Asus Strix and Gigabyte 970 Gaming

u/SweetButtsHellaBab · 5 pointsr/Amd

If any Brits are interested:

Amazon - Zotac GTX 970 ITX - £219

Aria - MSI GTX 970 Tiger OC - £210

Amazon Warehouse - Asus GTX 970 STRIX - £208

EDIT Holy shit guys! The RX 480 4GB is fifty frikken pounds less than the 8GB version! IT'S ACTUALLY A GOOD PRICE! Overclockers - XFX RX 480 - £175

>To be fair you are paying in pounds. 430 pounds is $640 USD.

Sure, that would work if hardware in the UK cost the same as in the US.

It doesn't though, it's significantly more expensive. For example:

GTX 970 Strix - UK - £279.99 or $416

Same card from the same retailer in the US - £235 or $350

Ultimately, I spent the same amount for everything for my rig as I would have done to buy an Xbox One.

>And really console game prices aren't that bad.

They really are compared to what you pay on PC, they're consistently at least 25% cheaper, on average I pay probably about half what people do for the same game on consoles.

>I prefer consoles cause it's just easier.

Again, having been on both sides of this argument, I can say in complete certainty that this is no more than a myth.

>I never need to tinker with settings to get decent performance

Neither do I, I just bang it on 1080p, high preset, and I'm usually all good - at the very least I'm always more good than what you get on consoles.

>I used to play on PC but got tired of all the bullshit especially when I only had access to dial-up in 2007 and everyone began demanding internet activation and updates.Steam btw is fucking awful on dial up even with install DVDs. I spent 2 nights downloading the UPDATE to play HL2:Ep1. Just the update. I bought it on DVD. On my Xbox I just popped in the disc and played.

Steam used to be shit, that much is agreed, but you are talking about a time 8 years ago before the platform got on its feet, and now Steam kicks the ever loving shit out of any other gaming/sales platform across all hardware.

Hi Guys!

First time posting here, I'm in the process of picking the parts I want for a new PC. I'm thinking of going with the GTX 970 as my graphics card. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what, besides price, make, and size, is the difference between these two? Is either objectively better than the other?

Number 1

Number 2

Thanks for your help :)

It's the Asus Strix 4gb. Link below. Let me know!

Thank You :D!

About GPU:

What's the difference between buying an ASUS ASTRIX GTX (the one with the Owl in the box) [http://www.amazon.de/ASUS-STRIX-GeForce-4096MB-256bit/dp/B00NFFAW50/ref=pd_sim_sbs_computers_4?ie=UTF8&refRID=095MY8HYDCJB4JJMNFZ9] vs the one you selected? (ZOTAC also "GTX 970") - I know it's a stupid question for sure but, I'm completely noob when it comes with hardware. Everything is about more vs less fps on games and graphic quality very similar?

RAM: If I can buy 16GB now, should I get that instead of 8GB? I could go the extra mile and get 32GB too I guess. I mean, I spent a lot of money on a "stupid iMac 27 2600€ for video editing/fcpx<3" So, I now want to punish myself and spend my savings on a better computer "for far less". Fuck Apple/iPhones$$$, tho, I love MacOSX and now I will have to forget Finalcut ;/

Monitor: Great thanks, one less problem :)

Here is the PSU I bought:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00PGUSEBG/ref=twister_B016KV6WRW?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

The GPU:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-GTX970-DC2OC-4GD5-NVIDIA-GeForce-Graphics/dp/B00NFFAW50/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1474035747&sr=1-1&keywords=asus+strix+970

The length is something that concerned me yes, I have measured inside the case and I should have 2 cm to spare. It just about reaches the HDD bay, but it should be able to fit.

It's alright been building computers since the 90's but haven't really upgraded my PC in the past 6years. Which is why I'm willing to throw the extra squid at my PC to get it up to standards to do what I need to do.

Only changes I've done to my current build in the past 6years is change the 200GB Seagate for a 1TB Seagate and the 9800GT Super for a GTX 650-Ti.

If I were to go for the GTX 970 it would be most likely this one: ASUS Strix GTX 970
