Brummy is not my first dog, however he is my first JRT and the first dog I've clicker trained and I will stand behind this method 100%. It works so well. Just make sure you understand the method as well and give the dog a chance to get what you're trying to do. He is up to 15 "tricks" now and he's only a year old. Whenever I pull out the clicker and gets excited and pays attention. I usually throw the ball around a couple of times to get some of the energy out of him before we start anything new.

I would get him around other dogs at a young age. Big and small. It helps them be more friendly and not freak out everytime they see another dog.

I would look into getting an antler for a solitude toy. They last forever and he loves his.

I've got a golden mix, they are especially mouthy when little

I've noticed several times when the biting starts

  1. he needs to exercise
  2. he is over stimulated
  3. he thinks we are playing
  4. he needs to take a nap

it helps to recognize the signs and stop it asap, once it starts depending on severity, I either freeze, yelp, stop play for a bit until he calms down, or leave him alone so he will take a nap

edit: I forgot about the teething aspect, sometimes they just wanna chew, and make sure you have an assortment of types of chew toys, sometimes they want soft, sometimes something they can hold and tug, sometimes hard, sometimes organic, when mine is really bitey sometimes I just replace my hand with an elk antler and he just goes nuts on it for an hour instead of me
