Braun BN0035 is an option. It is quartz and has a mineral glass.
You'll be hard pressed to find a decent, automatic chronograph for ~$500 so you'll have to stick to quartz.
This is my first "proper" watch. I hated wearing a watch before, I found them uncomfortable and would take them off without knowing (I've lost a few!) this one has 3 things going for it:
Up for sale/trade is the award winning Braun chronograph watch, model BN0035-BKBKG.
The watch has case diameter of 40mm, depth od 9.5mm, stainless steel body, 20mm lug width, Miyota FS00 quartz movement, K1-Hardened Mineral Glass, leather strap.
The watch is in perfect condition, no traces of use on the crystal, body, bezel, crown, buttons, hands or dial. The leather strap is little bit worn out, even though it looks good when the watch is worn. The strap is the only part that is not perfect. The watch shall be shipped in OEM watch box, I don’t have the papers or the original box.
I got the watch on e-bay few days ago, I find it absolutely beautiful, but it looks very small on my 18cm wrist and big palm. It looks really tiny, like a toy watch.
Trade for a SEIKO SKX009J/K is also possible. I shall pay the difference.
Asking price is 110$US (worldwide regular shipping with tracking number included).

Here I was thinking you said minimal chronograph. Braun makes a good one. Dieter Rams (the inspiration for Apple's aesthetic) designed it.
