A friend of mine gave me a pair of Soundtech, AudioChoice Model C120 PA style or 'instrument' speakers.

Power handling says, 100 Watts Continuous, 200 Watts Program

Impedance is 8 Ohms.

I've heard of Wattage at continuous or RMS, Peak or Max, but I've never heard of 'program'.

My intention or hope is to use them with my Yamaha RX amplifier than I use with my PC audio/gaming system.

The speakers have a 1/4 jack input... so I figured maybe I can use these adapters (link below) to hook them to the amp via regular speaker wire with bare ends.

Just wanted to check with the community to see if this advisable, if there are any caveats I'm not aware of, and any other thoughts you might have.

If this will work, I'll go ahead and order the adapters right away.

Don't forget the Speaker Level to Line Level Converters I mention. If you look at the Amazon Search link, there are some that are in the $10 range or less.

If I recall the maximum voltage on the RCA connectors on my Stereo are about 2v. So the signal probably need to be between 1/4v and 1/2v roughly. Not sure on the XLR, but it should be in the owner's manual for the Scarlett.

Also keep in mind that if you are using Signal/Ground, instead of Signal(+), Signal(-), and Ground, the XLR simply acts like an RCA input.

What happens when XLR Balanced is converted to RCA Unbalanced, is the signal comes in on the Signal(+) and the Signal(-) is grounded. So, you know longer have balanced lines.

The Scarlett 2i2 is actually a very good device, that's not the problem. The problems is that you have no Line Level to feed it.

If you have an Oscilloscope, you could compare the output levels of the Headphone out to the output levels of the speaker connectors.

If I assume the Amp has 25w/ch (RMS), which is likely given what you have said, that means the voltage potential is 14v. You need to be down less than 1 volt. Again, check the Headphone output, that is likely to be your best source.

I suspect the Scarlett 2i2 will also accept 1/4" phone plugs in both TRS (balanced) and in TS (unbalanced) you can get adapters for these too. (TRS = Tip, Ring, Sleeve(balance or stereo); TS - Tip Sleeve (mono))

There are also bare wire to 1/4" Phone adapters -

I suspect if anything is going to work, it is going to be the headphone out.

Here is a cable that is 1/4" Stereo on one end and TWO 1/4" Mono on the other -

That would work for the Headphone out to the Scarlett in.

Let us know how it turns out.
