Merino wool is the most amazing fabric you'll ever let touch your skin. It's not scratchy like normal wool, it regulates body temp, and doesn't smell. I've heard of people wearing merino wool socks traveling for over a week. Let them hang dry over night & wear them again the next day. No funky smell. I have merino wool jackets that are 6 months old & have been washed one time.
Of course, this comes at a price. Merino is not cheap. You can go with the standard darn tough or the super fancy.
