The hibiscus has free wifi, and its fairly fast (dsl speeds) but mostly works outside the room only , its about $30 a night there, they have locking safes inside. Palawan is a lot more safe (as is boracay) to leave your items in the hotel room, I left my laptop and cell phone laying around in the rooms no problem.

The Hibiscus owners are really great will often drive you around in their personal van for free, Its a french guy and his filipina wife, they are so nice. They have great breakfast in the morning and coffee so check that out for sure. But they are wonderful people. Also its in good walking distance of the white beach , and has nice wifi (mostly outside) or you can sit by the door. Nice rooms though

boracay isn't too much of a party place, its really laid back , i think you would like it. Being american though in boracay people will ask a lot "sir do you want to rent a jet ski! sir do you want to go scuba?" problem is, its all so cheap! you want to do it all haha

Manila is not so safe, if you plan on walking around in manila its a whole new ball game. Day 1 in manila I was almost robbed, So if you plan on traveling around in manila all the rules change haha. Palawan and Boracay you can be trusting and act just as you do at home. But not in manila

If you plan on going to manila get something like this

I wore this, and got my money changed at vendors , a lot of them wont take 100 dollar bills older than 2006. I didn't carry a wallet in manila, and keep my money in my money belt under my belt line of my pants.

Take a quadband unlocked GSM phone with you, you can buy really cheap smart/globe cards there, (prepaid) its cheap for making local calls , but not for calling from the phil to the usa (its about 40cent a min on those cards). I use a card when I go there , so I can keep in touch with my wife (she lives in manila) and we can text

If you out and around manila (and you are white or black) they will know you are not from there and will have an eye out to pick pocket you. If you are filipino, you will be fine, just blend in.

While in manila I dressed down, old shorts/shirt flip flops , hat. Sun glasses to try to blend in.
