While it's handy to have that option, you can get a $12 flashlight which is nigh-indestructible, twice as bright as your camera flash, and runs for 11 hours doing nothing but emitting light from a single AAA battery. The two items aren't especially comparable.

I keep a neck knife kit on me at all times when backpacking, even if I'm just going 50ft away from my gear. It's barely noticeable. Around the sheath I keep a ranger band that holds a miniature firesteel, a good amount of duct tape (medical, gear repair, fire starting, and so much more!), and a small fenix light. Notice that all of these items are dirt cheap yet make all the difference in the world if you get stuck. I could make fire and shelter easily if there is any wood debris around.

About a month ago I climbed Mt Baden-Powell. I was planning on spending the night but weather would not permit it so I had to hike back in the dark. TWO of my lights failed that night. Fortunately they were not my headlamp but just a lil lantern and penlight, but still it shows that stuff can happen. Regardless, even if my headlamp had failed I still would have at least had SOME light to hike back with.

Ahhh the G19. Bought one as my first handgun, and have since traded and sold probably 20 different handguns hoping to trade my way back to the 19. Very nice setup you have going there. My only .02 to throw into the whole mix would be to ponder on a higher quality keychain light. Either like this or move up to the AAA EO1. Both pretty affordable and reputable, but if your current light has served you well, run with it. :)

Although more expensive, I've kept this on my keychain as EDC for the past 2 years with the same bulb and a couple battery changes.

Really small but decent: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001GAOO6Y

A bit larger, good build and brightness, but a little bulky and the lens is cheap plastic: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B006VPPERC/ref=mp_s_a_1?qid=1367427224&sr=8-4&pi=SL75

Up in price a bit, but amazing light small enough to keychain. My edc: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00915B72A/ref=mp_s_a_1?qid=1367427327&sr=8-5&pi=SL75

I EDC a Fenix E01 because I like a really small light I can carry on my keychain with no problem. This light is tiny but it has worked well for me in all situations I needed it in so far.

I also have a Fenix E11 if I feel I need a little larger light but I generally leave it in my car or briefcase.

Another great option is the Fenix E01 or E05. They're both great single AAA lights, and tiny too!

Pen. I do own a Fenix E01, which I carry in my work bag, but not in my pocket.

As I described above, the little LED on my iPhone acts as the flashlight I have on me everyday and actually does a quite good job when needed. Very bright, but no added items in my pocket.

I really love my Fenix E01 Flashlight. It's reasonably priced, and stands up to the abuse of my pocket. (I've had it a few months short of 2 years now, with a good portion of that time being spent in my pocket or on my keychain...)

Not to mention my favorite part: It takes a single AAA battery - compared to most flashlights of the size that take button batteries...

As far as tools go, here are some good starting points:

Gerber Shard

Leatherman Micra

If you go the flashlight route, I hear good things about the Fenix E01 and E05.
