This system should last you a while

Looks pretty good for a budget PC, I'd look at spending $30 more on a r9 270 since it's quite a bit better.

Swap out the PSU for a similar quality 500w one and you'll have plenty of power for no extra cost.


If there's any way you can stretch to a cheap i5 it'll be well worth it as more games start utilizing multicores. It's another $60 but if you can't do another $90 then I'd go for the graphics card upgrade instead.

That's interesting. I think I'm definitely going for the 970. Do you recommend getting a equal priced level intel chip instead of the A 10 7700k? I.e. will this one perform better?

What case would you recommend that supports these parts then? This is pretty much all I plan on shoving into it.

Edit: Would this mobo and this cpu work just the same with everything else? It would save me quite a bit of money but in terms of quality, how far am I dropping? I think the $20 difference for the cpu isn't worth the drop, or am I wrong?

As expected, i5 is still faster on single thread performance (what matters in the real world) and AMD wins, but only by using the 8 cores (which isn't a typical scenario... unless you're compiling software, transcoding video or raytracing an animation).

Perceived speed on a normal desktop scenario (where the 8 thread are seldom profited from) will be better with the i5. It also has a considerable lower TDP, in good part because it runs at a considerably lower clock.

We can ignore the fact FX has no GPU If you were buying the FX to play games (and therefore getting a discrete GPU). But in that scenario, the 8cores will be wasted; modern games use 2, perhaps 3. Since you won't be using the 8 cores, the Intel's 4 cores would give you higher performance, because core per core they are faster. If you consider TDP on top of that (assume it even lower that stated for the i5 because you won't be using the builtin GPU), then Intel's a clear winner.

So, clearly, if you can afford entering i5 price range, then it's an i5. If not, perhaps there AMD has some wiggle-play?

I'm aware AMD rules the absolute lower end (with Socket AM1) in any event; the atoms are more expensive and aren't proportionally faster.

those parts are not actually worth that. a 2500k is not worth 300 dollars. I paid 250 about 3 years ago.
