I actually just realized that this TV is not really a "smart" TV. It's actually a commercial TV used for displays. My parents are using an Amazon firestick for their stuff. I was wondering if I could use something LIKE THIS to extract the audio reliably without sacrificing the audio/video quality too much.

You could use an HDMI audio extractor, it allows the hdmi video signal to pass through while giving you the red/white RCA jacks for audio.

This is the extractor, whose listing says " Supports HDCP, Video EDID Pass Through". I'll have HDMI going in and SPDIF going out, with nothing connected to the HDMI output.
