Do you have a budget in mind? Speaker quality jumps—a lot— roughly with the price. Probably the most common recommendation for budget powered speakers over in r/audiophile are these JBLs ($300):

https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07BZ6QS6M/

I have Edifier R1280T powered speakers on my dot at home, and they're fine for the price ($100) but they aren't in the same class as the linked JBLs.

u/transam617 · 3 pointsr/CabaloftheBuildsmiths

The JBL 305p's are also good at $300

https://www.amazon.com/JBL-Two-Way-Studio-Monitoring-Speakers/dp/B07BZ6QS6M/

Below that and you are treading into the murky waters of really bad quality speakers that I have little experience with, especially powered ones.

Scarlett Solo controls the volume of both studio monitors.

JBL LSR305

M-Audio BX5 D3

Alesis Elevate 5 MKII

Pioneer DM-40

Fluid Audio F5

Or are you also planning on using the speakers without the Scarlett?

u/ChinosandStanSmiths · 2 pointsr/AVexchange

My thoughts exactly...

With $360 you can get
the updated version of these speakers + isolation pads + wires

Or buy some red speakers lol

u/day7a1 · 2 pointsr/audiophile

Do you need all 6 locations or just the surround ones?

If just the surround speakers.

It's going to be hard to get all 6 or 8 speakers for just $300. Since speakers last a long time you may consider getting a center and subwoofer now and forgoing the two rears until you can afford them.

Else, JBL is a decent brand. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00GJ0CKN0/ref=cm\_sw\_em\_r\_mt\_dp\_U\_UimCDb0DZYG91

Hi, want to ditch out my crackling 30 bucks PC speakers and want to buy really budget-stuff for music listening and sometimes plugging to TV. My budget is around 150 USD. ( I know i can't get anything outstanding for this, so at least decent. )

JBL 305P MkII are great, everyone says, but.. they are expensive for me + overpriced in my country as hell, ordering them from Amazon is no help, cus VAT.

Micca PB42X can't be shipped to my country, maybe different website is a solution.

I can get Q Acoustics 2020i for 120 USD in my country

or PreSonus Eris E3.5 for 115 USD.

I want consumer speakers for listening to music, enjoyable, not monitors ( if they are not boring, then yes.)

Should i get one of these i mentioned ? Or try to ship Micca PB42X from another website, it's still gonna be pricey, because of the VAT, they are not sold in my country.

I am poor, but i love music.

( Should i save up more and buy the JBL 305P ?, is it worth ? like long-term investment ? )

Thanks

I found a JVC L-A55 Direct Drive Turntable and am looking to get the best sound possible for $500-600, I don’t know if I should spent the money on speakers, or speakers and a new cartridge, or some other combination.
I’d also like to connect the speakers to my television if possible.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also, I have no idea if I need an amp, please don’t judge me too harshly.
These are the speakers I was looking at, if that matters.
Thank you again!

I researched on the audiophile subreddits, and this model came up several times. You want to invest in really good speakers, and these happen to be good speakers with built in amp. You can connect them to your PC directly for now, and if you want more quality add in a DAC later on. You'll need a 3.5mm to dual quarter inch cable. Easiest way- 3.5mm goes straight from your computer's audio out and the dual quarter inch's go to the back of the monitors.

krks or jbls are more than good enough for a bedroom setup. you might want to think about adding a subwoofer though.

however, they will not scale beyond that

Beginner here. I'm not sure if this is possible, but I would appreciate your help.

I have 2x JBL 305P MkII . they are hooked up to my computer in my bedroom.

Then I have a wireless bluetooth speaker in my bathroom.

Then I have a tv with a soundbar in a living room.

Then I have two other bedrooms with speakers not hooked up to anything yet.

Is it possible to have all of these play at the same time? Or to say, just have one or two rooms at a time playing? Can this be accomplished with amazon echoes or chromecast audios? If so, how? I have no idea what I'm doing. Happy to spend money, but I don't really want to wire up my house.

Also happy to paypal someone a little bit of money to consult for me through this.

It's too hard to do to offer general recommendations as to what to look for when shopping used. So much depends on what's available in your locale.

The r/audiophile purchase help thread offers these two new setups as the bare minimum it will recommend:

  • $110: Micca PB42X
  • $250: JBL 305P MkII

You could also start with a used audio video receiver from Yamaha, Denon, Marantz, or Pioneer. Then add passive speakers.
u/tacoty · 1 pointr/BudgetAudiophile

/r/Audiophile highly recommends the JBL LSR305 but I'm not sure if that opinion would change at the slightly higher price point...

https://www.amazon.com/JBL-LSR305-Professional-Studio-Monitor/dp/B07BZ6QS6M?pldnSite=1

Edit: Yes I know you said you hated the look of JBL...

u/shitboots · 1 pointr/audiophile

Interested in purchasing the recommended JBL speakers, but unsure what accessories are necessary to complete a set-up suitable for my needs. The speakers will be used primarily as the audio device for my television, but I'd also like to be able to connect via a bluetooth dongle (like this) to my phone or laptop for playing music. I previously had a stereo receiver on which I dedicated one audio channel to the television, and another to the bluetooth dongle, which worked well but has since broken. Wondering if there is a more cost effective way to toggle between the two sources of audio than to buy another stereo receiver which will get limited use.

I was thinking about buying these Emotiva bookshelf speakers: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MPY871U/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

I have no clue what I need to make them work though. Do I need an amp? preamp? subwoofer? Any advice would be appreciated. Also, would these be better than the JBL powered speakers in the FAQ? JBL 305P MkII

u/Robonglious · 1 pointr/audiophile

Just here to thank you for this advice. The JBL 305P MkII sound really good and never would have figured out the Nano Patch thing on my own.

At some point I'll try to figure out if I need to change any of the settings on the back of the speaker but at this point it sounds better than I could have hoped for.

Also I think I lucked out since my h3adfones have an external USB audio box which is acting as a DAC.

I have a burning question though. Normally I can hear speakers when no signal is going through if there is a power supply. Like a high pitched sound that really bugs me. Many devices give off this noise and it drives me nuts. My coffee grinder has a small screen on it and it makes the worst sound, well I think it's the screen not really sure. The JBL speakers make no noise at all though and I don't understand why. Are they just well designed?

Look at the proposed systems above both are small enough to fit on a desktop and are fairly cheap as well.

to quote: "

In an effort to cut down on some of the repetitive questions, here are the absolutely cheapest systems we are willing to recommend.

  • $110: Micca PB42X
  • $250: JBL 305P MkII

    Accessories

For the JBL-based setup, here are some accessories if you want to connect the speakers directly to a computer without an external DAC:

  • 3.5mm TRS to 6.3mm TS cable - use this if you're connecting the LSR305 directly to a computer
  • JBL Active Speaker Starter Set - includes the Nano Patch+ volume controller, two isolation pads and TRS to XLR cable. Use this if you want a physical volume controller to go along with the JBL speakers.

For the Micca setups, you'll need this to connect directly to a computer:

  • 3.5mm TRS to RCA - use this for connecting (either of) the Micca alternatives directly to a computer.

If you're going for the Micca MB42X + SMSL solution, you'll also need speaker wire:

  • AmazonBasics 16 AWG speaker wire "
u/disposablefairy · 1 pointr/audiophile

You'll need an input switch.

'Schiit Saga S' 5 inputs, with volume control knob, with remote control, expensive

'Schiit SYS': 2 inputs, with volume control knob

'SpeaKa Professional 4 Port Cinch-Audio-Switch': 4 inputs, no volume control knob, inexpensive

For speakers:

JBL 305P mentioned above. I f you put them on the TV bench, do get some foam to put underneath.

For the turntable:

If your turntable has a built in pre-amp then you don't really need anything else. If not you can go for something like the 'Pro-Ject Phono Box E'. As you are using bookshelf speakers you don't need a separate amplifier.

For cables ( I use the brand 'Cordial'):

XLR to RCA cable to connect the speakers to the input switch

Y-split RCA to 3.5mm cable to connect the input switch to the echo

RCA from the input switch to whatever audio connection your tv has

RCA to RCA to connect the turntable to the input switch, another RCA to RCA cable if you get a pre-amp
