I'm guessing you mean <$200 (less than 200). Also, it would be good to know what "these" are. For general listening, these are pretty good for the price: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0002SQ2P2/itquotes102-20

These are great, good quality and the price can't be beat. The only issue is you need a room that you can use them in (small enough, right shape).

If your looking for 2.1 instead of 5.1, I would get these:

http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Z-2300-THX-Certified-Speaker-Subwoofer/dp/B0002SQ2P2/ref=dp_cp_ob_e_image_0 - insanely loud, lots of bass

or if you can get these used :

http://www.amazon.com/Creative-Labs-I-trigue-Computer-3-Speaker/dp/B0000ADY4L

I have these, I think they're at least 5 or 6 years old and they still sound great.

I appreciate the link, but the price is $280 from Mikes on there

also, just checked my speaker setup is the logitech z-2300 - https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Z-2300-THX-Certified-Speaker-Subwoofer/dp/B0002SQ2P2

looks like the jack is a mini plug (male) that looks like a headphone jack...I guess it essentially is...If I buy headphones I'll have the same issue if it comes with a jack, right? I'll have to get a good mobo then..

Also willing to trade a Logitech Z2300 plus cash/PayPal.

Someone who has auditioned both stereo HomePods and the Z2300 is free to talk me out of it. The Z2300 sounds amazing and I'm not sure if stereo HomePods would be much of an upgrade (if anything, the lack of audio inputs on the HomePod is likely worse).

holyshityes. CS:S played through these speakers at a very high level is just awesome.

the chaingun and pump shotty have such a rumble.

Z2300's are all you need.

I fucking love my set.. nothing louder on the market.. No sub hits notes so smoothly without that fucking rattle. They just got discontinued, making a cheaper set for more expensive now..get them while you can
here.

TL;DR THX CERTIFIED. THAT IS ALL

real answer: ipods are designed for casual listeners using headphones. As such, the balance is thrown off, especially at high volumes, to make things sound better through those stupid little ipod headphones.

As for ipod speakers, it is assumed that anyone who would buy one of those is going for style and not good sound, so they're all made to look good, not sound good. I'm would assume the Bose one would sound better than any other brand, but, if you buy those, you'll be paying a good 50% premium for the brand name.

If I were you and I really wanted to blast something, I'd probably go with this. Sure, there's no pretty ipod dock but you basically save $200. If you go with speakers any more expensive than these, you probably want to first invest in a better audio source than an ipod.

I'm looking for help on how to add a sub to my setup. Would love some advice. It's sorta tough to articulate my question so I made a short video instead:

Here are links to the items I already own that I describe in the video:

How about the Logitech z2300? Massive base, good audio for games, movies and electronic music. I'd definitely buy that again but don't recommend it for badly soundproofed apartment buildings.

I was able to get these years ago. They're incredible. If you could get them for a decent price (original price was $150) you can't go wrong.
