You can run it in a different room, you just need to set it up in that room, so you would need to get someone to click the setup buttons, or run back and do it yourself.
You would also need to use active extension cables to make it work as USB is normally limited to 5 meters, and HDMI to about the same at the high resolution VR requires. I managed it with a 10m USB cable, and a ~$30 repeater for HDMI that I plugged a couple of 15 feet extension cables into.
As for multiple rooms, you'd have to redo the setup everytime you changed rooms, as there's no profiles for different areas.
