For anyone on look out for cheap headphones, Phillips SHB7000. I just bought one from a mall and they are cheaper on Amazon. They are amazing.

If you're gonna do Bluetooth, make sure you have a powerful radio, or else you'll get lots of dropped audio. It's also possible that the Vive only outputs to the headset, and by extension, the 3.5mm jack on the headset, in which case it wouldn't be an option without a lot of tweaking or reprogramming.

Any stereo headset/headphones will do 360 sound, because you only have two ears; the 360 part comes from processing the audio on the CPU end (based on the estimated location of your ears from the position of the headset).

Personally, I'm vacillating between a cheap pair of on-ear headphones I bought (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006B486K?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00) that are actually pretty solid, or wiring up my Philips bluetooth headset (http://www.amazon.com/Philips-SHB7000-28-Discontinued-Manufacturer/dp/B00CAJOOWE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1456873525&sr=8-2) which has the advantage of being easier to put on/take off.

Like most say - wireless is the only way forward.
I use these at the gym they're under $50 the sound is fine, (good brand (philips) they fit over the ear and theres controls for volume and tracks on the ear. The ear cushions are not as comfy as some though.

I have these for about 18 months an think they are great. Used with tablets, phones, laptop, and my FireTV.

If you decide to get earbuds I reccomend spending an extra $10 or so and molding them to your ear. Here's a guide, it's pretty easy. I accidentally put my bluetooth earbuds though the wash and got these as a replacement, I'm sure there's a lot better headphones out there if you're willing to spend the money but these have been perfectly functional. I've been a lot happier with headphones than earbuds but I might be biased because I have never found earbuds that fit in my ear right without doing the custom molding.

Budget - ~$100- $150 max

Source - PC on-board sound - 7.1 CH HD Audio with Content Protection (Realtek ALC892 Audio Codec)

Requirements for Isolation - Some isolation. I will use the headphones at home but we do have a somewhat of a loud heater that runs when it's cold in the winter.

Preferred Type of Headphone - Full-size headphones

Preferred tonal balance - Overall balanced pair of headphones

Past headphones - Sennheiser HD 201 Lightweight Over-Ear Binaural Headphones and Turtle Beaches X1. What I liked about the Sennheiser is I wasn't able to hear static when no sound was playing (and as far as I know, this is because it didn't need to be powered via USB unlike the TB)

Preferred Music - High vocals ? I typically listen between vocaloids and instrumentals.

e.g:

Vocaloid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEcTEk9eQtc
Instrumental: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oO5dxwDH6Sk

Additional Notes- I don't want audible static whether there is sound playing or not. Another requirement is that the headphones can be used as either wireless or wired. So it should support both Bluetooth and corded. (e.g Philips SHB7000/28 Bluetooth Stereo Headset, Black- http://www.amazon.com/Philips-SHB7000-28-Discontinued-Manufacturer/dp/B00CAJOOWE/)

Location - Canada but I have no problem buying from U.S sites.

I have a pair of Philips SHB7000 and I'm happy with them. The audio quality is good for its price, I mean its not some luxury audiophile headphones, but its way better than the cheap ones I had before, and they're not that expensive. Amazon seems to sell them for $42, which is about half of what I bought them for 6 months ago.

I don't know enough to say if they're good for classical music or not, so try them before you buy them I guess.

Pros: You can either use them wireless using bluetooth (so since its digital you don't get the static noise you get from some analogue wireless) or use a removeable cable. If you use the cable they don't use the battery. They're over-ear, rechargable via USB, comfortable to wear, and the battery lasts for me for a full day of sitting in front of the computer. They have a volume control on them which might be nice for VR since you can adjust the volume without having to look at your keyboard.

Cons: The wireless range isn't great, I can use them within my apartment but just barely. If I go to the furthest corner of my apartment the sounds starts to get choppy. If you haven't played a sound for a while they turn off to save power, and its a little bit annoying that you have to press a button on them to start them up again (which takes several seconds) before you can play any sounds (you only need to start them when using wireless).

Overall I'm happy with them.

Whatever you decide to do, I'd say either get wireless or get ones with a replaceable cable, because the cable is pretty much always what breaks on headphones first. If you get wireless make sure to get something that transmits the audio digitally or the audio quality will suck.

Phillips doesn't make these anymore, but you can still get them on Amazon for $37. They're really good bluetooth headphones. The oval design lets them fit nicely over my ears.

Edit: I know this is a bit above your price range, but I believe these went for $50-60 a few years ago.
