Sometimes. Some packages are even labeled hominy grits. This bag of Quaker Oats 5 minute grits doesn't say Hominy on the front but the ingredient list shows White Hominy Grits with some extra chemical nutrients to make up for removing the germ. But the kind I buy and the kind recommended in the article the OP linked to is coarsely ground from dried corn. Still includes the hull and, more importantly, the germ. That's why the shelf life is limited. I keep mine in the freezer until I'm ready to open the bag.
