bought some RHA MA350's off Amazon for my nexus 4, they have been great. they failed after 1 year, loose connection one ear. but they have a 3 year warranty. fast and efficient turnaround from RHA, new pair within a week. well impressed. plus the new pair has a right angled jack, which i prefer.

have previously used sennheiser cx range, they were good but broke too quickly. most in ears break within a year. the 3 year warranty, and fantastic service from RHA make it an excellent deal.

they are £29.95, but if they only last a year, and you get a replacement pair free, then the long term cost is more viable. they have a clear, uncoloured sound, not bass heavy. no media controls.

These are what I got. I basically did a bit of looking online for best sound for the money. I believe I paid around $40 at the time (2014) and they are still going strong. The brand has good reviews, overall.

They don't stick out of your ears too far, so it makes slipping on your helmet with them in pretty easy. I wear mine like this to keep them in place during longer rides. It's help a lot!

I'm currently reviewing a set of headphones from RHA that I've found have remarkably good build quality (better than my headphones that cost 3X as much). They cost 40USD, which is roughly the price range you're looking at. They come with a 3-year no-questions-asked warranty, also, which seems right up your alley. They're pretty bass heavy, which should suit your EDM listening.

Here's a link.

Around $50, I originally had a pair of sony in ear headphones for around that price and they lasted me few years. I just found these but Im not sure if I'll like them ore not.

RHA MA350

I have the version with remote (MA450) and they sound good, fabric cable, three year warranty, not far out of your price range. They're made in the UK, which is cool.

These are the best in-ear headphones I've tried. Very well reviewed. Not over priced like a lot of brands.

Best sub $50 headphones I've head that have soundstage - dynamics - pretty good details - are able to reproduce horns and dry raspy vocals, well, don't have lower mid-range bloom and are well extended but again, not too detailed in the low end, but fast enough to make the music engaging. are these:

Down sides, they took about 100+ hours to or more to sound good. There was an irritating upper mid-range hump that would become irritating after a couple hours of listening. It is no longer there. And the jacket of the line is cheap. No iphone mic.

Otherwise, fantastic sounding. Why more open, even, dynamic and have a coherent and wide soundstage, than other earphones I've heard in the sub $50 price range. And they don't add extra bass. r/audiojerk wouldn't like'm.

I use these in ear phones and they're perfectly comfortable to wear in bed.

Location - England, should be available on Amazon UK

Budget - <£75 (~$110) - preferably lower if there's something good

Source - Laptop and Nexus 5. I've noticed white noise from earbuds in my laptop for a while after I stop playing audio, is that a sign of a bad sound card?

Requirements for Isolation - High; will mainly use at home, but want the option of a quiet library (i.e: don't want anything leaking out, but I shouldn't have much outside noise)

Preferred Type of Headphone - Was thinking full size over-ear because I assumed they'd have higher isolation and comfort, but then I also read these were often less comfortable than on-ear, so whichever ticks boxes.

Preferred music - Pretty big mix, but I'd say indie rock if I had to give a direction (Arcade Fire, Wilco, etc.), sometimes heavier. I assume that means I don't want high bass?

Past headphones - Various earbuds which I find break a LOT for me just from wear and tear, want something sturdier and much better audio quality. Also had Plantronics GameCom 780 headset which I remember liking the audio of, but I don't want a mic anymore.

I'm a complete headphone/audio newb, feel free to correct a requirement/give budget advice if they seems unrealistic. I'm not an audiophile, so while I want something that sounds significantly better than my earbuds, I also care a lot about comfort, durability and aesthetic (not necessarily flashy, but attractive). Thanks!

RHA MA350's are some pretty sturdy ear buds. RHA is a Scottish company, and their ear buds are made of pretty tough aluminium, so no crushing them. They also have a braided cable and a strong input connection. I only had to replace mine after I lost them.
They're also cheap, with a 3 year warranty and most importantly sound very nice.
