I'm not sure if it will help that much but maybe try out some o-rings. You can find them for about $5-$10 on Ebay. Or about $15 from Amazon.

Edit: $10 on Amazon, and I think you can use prime shipping.

This is exactly how I felt with the prices... at first... then I stuck around this sub and r/mechmarket and really found out how much this hobby really costs :)

My older keyboard ( Logitech G710+ with Browns) had o-rings and I really liked how they felt and sounded. Definitely quieter than normal browns.

I currently have a keyboard with MX Reds with O-rings ( from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00K73IBHE) and they are definitely quieter.

My problem has been when I bottom out (quite a bit as you can imagine, Reds are really light) you still hear the bottoming out but not as bad as when I first got this keyboard.

I have a keyboard incoming with Zealencios and I cannot wait to hear/feel them.

So you have MX browns? The actual mechanism of MX browns makes virtually no noise- the noise comes from the key "bottoming out" and plastic clacking. The clacking is between the plastic at the base of the key stem and the plastic of the keyboard/switch body. You can put a rubber o-ring at the base of the stem, which eliminates the plastic clack.

Here's a picture that shows o-rings on the keys http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/w/a/wasd_orings2013.jpg

Pretty much, you'd just go buy a set, get a key puller, pull all of your keys, slip the o-rings on, then put the keys back on. It'll reduce your noise very significantly on browns. You could probably find sound comparisons on Youtube if you're curious.

Edit: They're pretty cheap. Here are some o-rings on Amazon and then you'll want a key puller. I recommend this one Most keys will come off easily. For ones like backspace, enter, space, shift, etc, I recommend looking up a guide to make sure you don't bend any stabilizers.

You should be asking over at /r/MechanicalKeyboards/, not /r/dota2.

The benefits of mechanical keyboards are mostly comfort and feel, it sounds like you're overestimating the usefulness of them. They will not make your clicking/searching 3 times more efficient. Unlike a gaming mouse, the benefits of a mechanical keyboard for gaming will be minimal at best.

If you're not sure what switches you want, something like this switch tester might be up your alley. If noise is an issue, Cherry MX Browns sound good for you. They're low stiffness and have a tactile bump but no click, which makes them good for typing.

Even non-clicky mechanical switches will always make noise when they bottom out, so you might want to invest in some O-Ring noise dampeners.

Not as much as any other keyboard, really, unless you bottom out very hard. If you do, then something like O rings can solve that issue.

Bought these off of amazon! They work quite nicely!

The Corsair K90 has macro keys and Cherry Reds which are probably the quietest mech keys. Combine with some O-rings and it can be pretty quiet.

I say pretty quiet because you'll still have noise if you constantly bottom out the keys. However if you get good you don't need to bottom out the keys and it'll be silent. Or get Browns for the tactile bump to know when the key is actuated.

I bought some o rings for a mechanical keyboard and they fit fine (a little smaller than penwish but once they are on I can't tell the difference).

Black
Red
Blue

They only come in large packs but at least they fit fine and have a few different colors to chose.

an o ring is a thing used on mechanical keyboards to make it quiter, its basically a little rubber ring, can be found here (those are really expensive tho) and dental rings are just really small rubber bands, the rubber bands you put on braces

These are the ones I bought. if you have RGB I'd get the clear so it doesn't interfere with the lights . I've used them on two different keyboards so far and I can say they definitely do something. They won't remove the sound completely but they definitely dampen it which is the intended purpose of the rings. There are some that are different sizes and will dampen more/less depending on the size. I could've gone bigger but it would've made the keys mushy.

Edit: have you experimented or know if you could use a different cable with the keyboard? I wanna get a braided cable because I can't stand the white cable it comes with.

>Hoping to splurge and get the k70 RGB next paycheck.

YAY! DO IT! I have one and LOVE mine. I could never go back to membrane boards.

>Any recommendations on Cherry Mx keys? I was thinking the Browns would be a good balance between feedback, noise, typing, and gaming performance. Blues feel great they're way too loud for me though, and the Reds I tried at my local BestBuy just felt so mushy.

And you are correct, at least in my opinion. I have browns and love them so much, I honestly couldn't switch. (Heheh, switch.)

They are excellent for gaming since they give just enough feedback, but also good if you need to type out an essay. They're quiet enough for me to play a FPS game and still let my GF sleep on the couch by me without waking her up with "CLICK CLACK CLICK".

Blues were wayyyyy too loud for me, shit drove me insane when I tried em out. Reds just weren't doing it for me, but BROWNS?! Browns are perfect.

I also threw on some O-rings to stop the keys from bottoming out, making my KB even quieter.

Your keys will still bottom out and make noise even with MX Browns, but the switch won't make noise. O-Rings prevent this from happening by putting more of a cushion between the board and the key. Link to the ones I got.

Any other questions or anything feel free to ask!

Audio Gate + Sound Dampening O-Rings = No "click-clack" from my Das Mechanical Keyboard in the audio.
