Not really anymore, microSD and regular SD are pretty much on parity when it comes to read/write speeds. For example:
The microSD is actually touting (slightly) faster read and write speeds than the regular SD. I personally don't use microSD because they're easier to lose and the adapter is always one more potential point of failure, but my coworker has always used a microSD in his camera and hasn't had any issues.
