I just pre-ordered this:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01J1M4IHS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

For my needs (1080P @ 60 FPS) this fit rather nicely. Depending on budget, I might upgrade to the 8GB model.

I've said it before, but here we go again -- Marco Streng is a serial liar. He exaggerates to the extreme. He's the kid in 1st grade who says he has a pet elephant at home, but in reality just has a big dog that lost its hair.

My favorite lie is that the datacenter is in some secret location given that they list the flipping address on their website as their "operational" address. So, it is hardly a secret facility, it's the Mjölnir data center that Advania built for BitFury. Genesis uses a small portion of it (i.e., accounts for less than 15% of the current electrical usage of the facility).

You can see the construction of the facility here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvGtrflL8zA
More info about the facility https://stundin.is/grein/906/vafasamar-tengingar-staersta-gagnavers-landsins/#_=_

There likely was no 747 rented. Maybe a private charter jet? A 747 could hold 285,763 lbs max. Based on [cards shown in the videos on their site for the Enigma farm](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01J1M4IHS
), you're looking at a maximum of 124,245 video cards (weight, not volume is the limiting factor, even in retail packaging).

Their data center has 6 GPUs X 20 servers per rack X 33 racks per row X 2 rows for a total of 7920 GPUs. If the rows are double sided (they claim they are, though that is also false), we're looking at a maximum of 15,840 GPUs for the whole farm. So if they bought and shipped the WHOLE farm at once, you're looking at using 12.7% of a 747 -- i.e., maybe it happened that they rented a plane for shipping, but no way was it an entire 747 just for this purpose.

The fun part is that in this video you can clearly see that it is NOT double-sided on each row, and best of all Marco lies about how many would be in that row ("over 10,000" -- a lie even if it was double-sided).

Here's another video of him going on about how secretive the site is. He ain't fooling anybody. Here he's showing the video of the ORIGINAL layout of the Enigma farm from last year. It has since been rebuilt into the individual boxes loaded with 6 cards each for easier maintenance. Before it was a huge long continuous row of cards that was sort of difficult to figure out which motherboard each card went with on the row below. Now the boxes are self-contained and can be pulled at-will. He even stumbles over his words to correct his lie at around 2m 28s (so that's um, our mining... one of our mining facilities).

I'm looking to upgrade from my 6870 1GB GPU without breaking the bank and I'm thinking of this RX 480 4GB by Sapphire. It seems like a pretty decent price (CAD), anyone have any feedback about this particular card? The rest of my build is here.

No indication as to when they will be available, but a pre-order nonetheless

Definitely leaning towards it. Just found on amazon.ca for $285 CAN, which is pretty stellar. Thanks for the replies.

I was looking at this for a graphics card, but I’m not too sure if it would be good for gaming.

I'm planning to buy this 480 assuming that it ever comes into stock. Is it worth getting the protection plan? $20 for three years seems like a no-brainer.

aftermarket is literally superior in every way possible, the only problem with it is that sometimes OEMs like to overprice them, like sapphire pricing their 4gb rx 480 @ $230 instead of the $200 msrp

If I order this Sapphire Rx480 Nitro+ 4GB, will Amazon ship me the card as soon as they are in stock, or will I have to wait weeks to receive one?

u/Geshman · 1 pointr/pcgamingtechsupport

Not really unfortunately. You didn't specify what 7700 you have, that's a series not a model. If it is the 7750 then the new card will use double the power.

The biggest problem is that your PSU is not a good one, and could fail, destroying your system. It also likely doesn't have enough power to run the 1070 at all.

You second problem, is that your CPU is going to be a huge bottleneck. I'm not sure exactly how much, but it will be quite severe.

My suggestion to you, would be to instead get a 1060 3GB or RX 480 and use some of that money to get a decent PSU that has at least an 80+ Bronze certificate. this one would be significantly better than your current one

You could also consider upgrading your CPU, but this will be fairly costly. this cpu would be considerably better than your current one. amazon link

TL:DR You could get that processor and PSU, along with the RX 480 for about the same price as a 1070. This would get you solid 1080P gaming without your PSU exploding.

Probably not the answer you were hoping for, sorry.

Edit: link to PCMR article warning about the FX series processors and how underpowered they are He has the same CPU I suggested, and even that is bottlenecking the GTX 1080 (and may likely bottleneck something like a RX 480)
