Is it too late to get a bilingual doula? I think often doulas are more important for the partner than for the birthing woman, and especially in your situation where you're going to be unable to communicate with the care providers (especially crucial if you're planning a natural birth), I'd say a doula will be a lifesaver. Otherwise, just focus on your wife and what she needs. Talk honestly and in detail ahead of time about what's really important to her--what she wants you to help her fight for, what kinds of support she wants/needs from you. Presumably she has a birth plan, but you need to be completely on board, know which parts really matter to her and which don't, and be ready to fight for her choices when necessary. You have to set yourself aside to some extent while you're acting as her support, because she needs you a lot during this time. Have you been to birth classes? Many of the techniques for laboring women would probably be useful for anxious partners as well--focalization, meditative breathing, etc. Penny Simkin's book The Birth Partner is also a really useful read.
