I would disagree with this. The therapeutic alliance literature (for example, Wampold, 2000) suggests that the effective component in therapy may be the ability of the clinician to form a therapeutic alliance, rather than any treatment modality.
That said, a lot of traditional psychoanalysis involves meeting every day, so there's a question of efficiency.
The problem of course is the that empirically support treatment literature people and the therapeutic alliance people largely ended up pretending the other didn't exist.
