Here's what I recommend, uses additional USB power for better compatibility and has audio output via HDMI as well.

I used one of these to connect to a vga monitor and split off the audio to a cheap amp. I had to change some stuff in the config to get it to work properly (don't ask what, exactly, it's been a couple of years ago).

This https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00YC7U0NE/ has audio out on the same connector. Just hook up a pair of speakers and you should be good to go.

The RPi 3.5mm audio jack output is not up to audiophile quality. You might want to look into a DAC, or put the HDMI output into a converter that will handle the audio and video conversions for you.

There are inexpensive HDMI to VGA converters with audio outputs that might work. More expensive versions claim 5.1 capability. No idea how good the quality on those is though.

This is what you need. I just wanna make sure this is your issue: you have a graphics card that has HDMI ports you aren't using and your second monitor only has a VGA connector on it. If thats the case then that adapter will solve your issue.

I've got the xbox360 and ps3 going to a HDMI switch (4x2). One output goes to a hdmi to vga adapter(https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YC7U0NE/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1). That then goes to the extron. The extron can output vga from the HDMI/vga adapter and the vga on the dreamcast to the GDM-FW900. THe GDM is a beast and can handle up to 2304x1440

I use one of these little guys to connect my second monitor:
https://www.amazon.com/VicTsing-Gold-Plated-Active-Adapter-Converter/dp/B00YC7U0NE/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1493990660&sr=8-7&keywords=vga+to+hdmi+cables

(though I have the display port version)

It works great, and as far as I can tell doesnt add or subtract from the experience any. At the very least it will be a cheap temporary solution until you get a newer monitor.

i didn’t vet these particular items, but the concept should work for your application.

From Odroid C2 -> 1024x768 VGA Projector.

Just buy one of these problem solved

Yikes. A monitor with only VGA input? are you sure? Almost all LCDs I've ever seen have had at least DVI.

If you're sure you need this, get it online - a $10 adapter like this should do fine https://www.amazon.com/VicTsing-Adapter-Gold-Plated-Active-Converter/dp/B00YC7U0NE/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=hdmi+to+vga+active&qid=1569805910&sr=8-3

Thank you very much for your response! I already have a VGA cable, so would I just order the adapter and be good to go? You say:

>plug this adapter into your current one and get a vga cable.

Do you mean plug my HDMI to AV adapter into the one I order?

u/khedoros · 1 pointr/PlaystationClassic

That "RGB (PC/DTV)" port is VGA, which was a common video port on computers for a long time. The AV1 port is SCART, which takes all sorts of different analog connections (RGB, S-Video, or Composite, with those being the order of highest to lowest quality). The AV2 port has the non-SCART connectors for Composite and S-Video.

Something like this, plus a 3.5mm audio cable to connect it to the "Audio (RGB) in" plug, and a short VGA cable, would probably give you the best overall image quality without costing a huge amount. But...you've got a lot of options. There are at least 4 different converters that you could reasonably use.

u/Bals2oo8 · 1 pointr/techsupport

You have to have an active converter. Not just any cable would work as the signal has to be converted from digital to analog for the display.

Something like this..

u/DarkJarris · 1 pointr/linux4noobs

something like this one

https://www.amazon.com/VicTsing-Adapter-Gold-Plated-Active-Converter/dp/B00YC7U0NE

It just allowed me to use my 2 VGA monitors on a card that only had 1 VGA and 1 HDMI connector.
