How heavy are your boards and what kind of terrain? I’ve used sup slings (SUP-Now Paddle Board Carrier/Storage Sling https://www.amazon.com/dp/B012YCDK44/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_mt1zDbVR7CAWY) with my iSUPs that weigh about 25 lbs. they works great, pretty cheap, and don’t take up much space.
I don't have these but they look good too, can't tell if they have a backpack strap.

I like this compared to other deck rigging systems because it's not permanent, so you can take it off after each use and not damage the board at all. It gets decent reviews too, most of the negatives seem to be from people who don't realize that suction cups won't stick to foam...
This is more of a complete replacement for damaged or old grip vs additional for a pet or kid. We recently added a front pad for our dog to my wife's board and it's worked great so far.
